Hi all - maybe I am jumping the gun, but has anyone else begun working on their applications for Summer/Fall 2010 admission?
I plan on applying for direct entry to JHU, UCSF, Yale, Columbia, and Vanderbilt. With the exception of UCSF's 9/1 deadline, the rest seem to be due between 11/1 and 12/1. Although UCSF has the closest deadline, I am stressing the most about the essays for JHU. Anyone started them yet?
Also, does anyone plan on attending the open house that JHU is having in September? I would love to go, but I am in California, so I have to decide if it is worth the $$$. I am thinking I might be better off saving the money to fly out for the interview (positive thinking here).
Anyway, I would love to compare notes with anyone applying, or anyone who applied last year.
Thanks and good luck!
Hey I've been watching this forum for a few weeks now, and this thread is pretty much all of my activity :) but I'd like to say congrats to all those who got in already, this is going to be a great holiday season is it not? I'm anxiously waiting myself and I was wondering if anyone thinks they continue doing notifications on the weekend or if they are just going to start up again on monday?
Questions for those accepted... I know you were probably way too excited to ask too many questions or even remember all that was said... but did you get any indication of how many ED acceptances were made? Also, did you all send in your applications before the deadline? I'm wondering if maybe they call in order of when the application was received. Or I could just be thinking WAY too much about this! :)
P.S. For those of you following both threads, forgive me for my double posts!
rockkstarr,
First, I think you're in...
From the little I remember, it wasn't specificied how many acceptances were already made. She called then said she wanted to be one of the first to congratulate me on being accepted to both portions (she interviewed me) and explained that acceptance materials would be in the mail. She was also providing instructions on how to proceed (at which point I feel into a trance and was unable to pay attention). Responding to something I said, she did mention I have "every reason to be proud" because they had an excellent applicant pool and, i think, a larger volume of applications than anticipated or in previous years (this last point I don't clearly remember)
I mailed my application on 11/26 and I believe that it was receieved the 28th or 29th. I lucked out because this is the only program to which I applied, so I took the proverbial eggs in one basket strategy.
Thanks, Poet. I hope you're right! I'd be happy to be in a class with you and the other acceptees from this board!
Did you mean you applied October 26? I did the same as you... this is the only program I want, so the only one I applied to. If I don't get in, I'll figure it out from there :)

No, I meant 11/26- I just got it like that! haha. I kid, yes, I meant 10/26:up:...sorry.
NYU was my backup senario.
I'm now wondering how many other male acceptees there were.
yep, I was thinking NYU as well, and UNC (deadline is on 12/20, I believe). And possibly Jefferson and UMDNJ, as they're closer to where I live. However, I really really want to get out of NJ!
It will be interesting to see what the male/female ratio is... I imagine each year their male enrollment must increase. We have a lot of male nurses here where I work, relatively speaking... and most are ex-military, which I thought was interesting.
Poet,
I am also curious about the number of male applicants awarded acceptance.
It's funny to read your response to the phone call because of our strikingly similar reaction. I don't remember a whole lot after "congratulations" and "this was a very competitive applicant pool." She said I will be receiving the appropriate documentation in the mail as well.
Does anyone know when the accepted student welcoming is? I know we have mandatory orientation during the last week in May but I'm pretty sure they also have something in March.

I'd be willing to bet that the calls take several days.
Congrats to everyone that got in!! What a wonderful way to start your weekends.
My day was not nearly as exciting as Protongirl's or PoetWhittier's or anyone else who got in... But, I did manage to re-schedule my interview so that I could take advantage of some killer airline fares that I found. I am SO excited just about visiting and interviewing. I can't imagine how those of you who actually got in must feel!
Protongirl-- Have you visited Vanderbilt at all? I applied there also but, I probably won't visit unless I get in since I don't think that they do interviews.
