I'm not a snob or anything, and don't have social anxiety either. I'm just really quiet and introvert when it comes to work I am really focused but outside I'm actually outgoing and funny. But at job I'm totally a different person I'm not good with petty talk with co-nurses and not really a good talker to patients either. What is the best department or job positions for introvert nurses?

I, too, am an introvert. And although I am not shy and do not have social anxiety, I am very reserved and quiet. I think there is this mistaken perception that nurses need to be extroverts. It's so far from true. In fact a recent post here on AN about personality types revealed a large number of the respondents were introverts.

I found my niche in oncology. There is a lot of patient teaching involved, but I really enjoy that. While I am not necessarily good with small talk, if I have something to specifically focus on (like explaining chemo or what side effects to report, etc.) I do really well. I also found with some of our cancer patients there were times they really need someone to be quiet and just listen to them.

Regardless of what area you decide to work, your introversion can be positive. We all have an innate personality type. One is not better than the other, you just have to learn how to maximize the one you have.
