Hello all :)
I wasn't sure where to post this, but here goes....
I am a second-year student, taking pre-reqs for a BSN to MSN program. I am 39 and am changing careers. I currently work in the financial industry and am completely burned out. I am very eager to start working in healthcare and was wondering what types of jobs one can hold while in nursing school. I will be attending a part-time BSN program, and need to continue working during school (divorced).
My ex-husband is a chiropractor, and I ran his office for 6 years, so I know quite a bit about how to run a healthcare office. I also learned a great deal about anatomy. I'm taking medical terminology right now, along with A&P I, Ethics, and Logic. I've already taken Bio, Microbiology, Sociology, and six Psych classes, along with all of my general education classes. I'll be ready to start the BSN program next fall.
Until then, I'd like to work in a healthcare related field. My fear is that no one will want to hire me, knowing that I will not be looking for a long-term position as, for example, a medical assistant or office manager.
What types of jobs work well for nursing students?
Thanks!

A unit clerk might be good while in NS with you experience. You could also become a pharmacy tech or CNA pretty quickly.

I just got a job as an adult sitter, and I am a nursing student. It pays 8-10 dollars an hour around here. So you should call some hospitals about that.
You could also become a nursing aid.

You could become a caregiver...some places will hire caregivers (with or without experience depending). These are good places to "get your feet wet."
If you can afford it, I'd recommend taking a CNA class. Or you can opt to work at a nursing home and often they will pay for your class (after you've worked specific time, it depends not many of these options are in my area however).
You could work as a patient sitter if you can find that job...
anything in health will get your feet wet...go for it!
