I am landing in Canada (either in Nova Scotia or Toronto) this coming May.
I am currently processing for registration with College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO). with the expected duration of assessment, i might be waiting until the end of the year until i hear a decision from them. So meanwhile, I am looking for jobs online and I am not sure what kind of jobs i should be searching for or qualified to be in especially health-care related. I've been applying for jobs as receptionist and medical assistant. But some of the medical assistant offers require training of some sort.
I am also open to any kind of jobs that has no relation to my profession. But i just want to know what's the best option i can get. It won't hurt to try, right?
Can anyone give suggestions? any jobs openings you know or good job sites?
Thank you!

Hello. Based on my experience, the closest health related job I got was a health care aide in an agency. I rarely had any shifts there.. I guess, twice a month. So, what I did is tried a job not related to nursing such as a food server. I was still employed at the agency doing casual jobs but I really depend on my job as a food server. In my honest opinion, it is a really tight job market in Toronto but just be patient :)
that's what i'm worried about coz if i will decide on moving to toronto, that means i'll have to live without relatives and pay for rent... and i have to look for a job by the time i land and God knows when i'll get one. i am thinking of taking whatever job i can get.
how did you find your current job as a food server? yellow pages or referrals?
I found the job through a friend who referred me. What will I suggest to you is just land in Nova Scotia since your relatives are based there. It will be hard to start in Ontario if you dont know anybody that could help you to settle down. Or try to find an employer here in Ontario so when you land here you could have a job and start from there. Hope this helps!
yeah I was thinking abut that. I badly want to move in Ontario. that's why I've been trying to look for jobs Coz it'll be easier to move there that way. if that fails, guess I'll stay in n.s til I can afford to move and live on my own.
thank you very much pickles27 :)

My husband and I are both Filipino nurses and are now based in Toronto. We both passed the CRNE and are lucky enough to work at an acute hospital.Indeed ,it is tough to look for work as an RN especially here in Toronto. There is a lot of competition when it comes to a particular job.Like you ,we didn't have any relatives here when we came that is why we were pressured to find a job right away to pay the bills of course. What we did was attend healthcare job fairs. These job fairs are held annually ,one job fair is held at the Hilton Hotel in Toronto and the other one at Ryerson University, both are in the downtown Toronto area. It is in this job fair at Ryerson that we got the employment opportunity.Though we also had other offers from other places in Ontario,we accepted the one which is here in Toronto.I also suggest if you are looking for a job that is not healthcare related or healthcare related for that matter try job search engines such as http://www.indeed.ca,www.wowjobs.ca,www.workopolis.com. Be prepared if your applying online to submit a lot of applications with no responses right away.
I hope this will help you.
