Hi all,
I was having a look at the different hospitals in the Fort Collins, Boulder, and Denver areas of Colorado. I was surprised to see very few openings. Like 7 or 8 in positions in Fort Collins and Boulder, and not many more in Denver. I thought there was a nursing shortage?!? By the looks of things it appears that the hospitals in Colorado are doing just fine despite that fact that there is a nation wide shortage. Any ideas as to what is going on?
Thanks,
Stephen

Hi Stephen,
Per HealthOne's job search function from the Swedish website there are 94 RN positions available at Swedish. I looked at P/SL and they have 30 available. SkyRidge has 37, Rose 11 and Medical Center of Aurora 21. That's several for just one hospital chain. There were more at their smaller outlying facilities as well.

Centura Health System (St Anthony's etc.) has 237 RN openings in the Denver/Boulder/Parker area.
That's 530 RN positions without even looking at Children's, University, or Denver Regional. Were you talking about new graduate positions? Because those are as scarce as hens' teeth around here.

definitely no shortage...as evidenced by working shortstaffed alot! but it is true that new grad openings are limited.

I'm currently looking for LPN positions for new grads. I'm graduating in December and moving out to be with my man. We are already stationed in Central City. I'm having horrible luck figuring out which hospitals will accept LPN. Does anyone have a clue?

I just searched "All Locations" for Health One http://www.swedishhospital.com/CCForm.asp
They have 2 LPN positions open, one at Swedish and one at North Suburban. One of them says that "experience PREFERRED" but not required.
Centura has 39 LPN positions across Colorado:

Check out which ones are closest to you. Most required a year's experienced but their LTC facilities openings did not specify this. Worst case scenario is you get a year of experience in just anywhere and then go where you want later.
You may want to start a new thread on this topic as new questions are likely to be overlooked within another topic.
Best of luck to you and congratulations on graduating.

The OP asks what is going on in northern CO.....the area nsg schools are arguably graduating more students than there are jobs for in that region. Also, many 'experienced' nurses relocate to that area just b/c it is an attractive place to live.
I have heard it said that northern CO is a 'pocket' where there is no shortage...... definately true of the front range communities, maybe not as much for denver.

I was answering a non-OP question within this thread. Forgot to quote it, sorry. Will update it...
