Jobs that you can create on your own

We will start this as a new sticky thread to give you ideas of what can be done and started in your country, and you can get credit for the experience. But it is going to involve work on your end to do it. This is not going to be used as a thread to make complaints about your government, but it is to be used as a source of what you can do to make things better for you as well as the patient population there.

All of these things were started in other countries as there was a need for it and there is absolutely no reason that one of you could not create your own job. And actually do something in nursing to help someone.

1. Patient education with setting up training centers for new mothers, or teaching patients about their medications, providing education for any area of nursing.

2. Outreach programs, such as what was done or should have been completed when you were in your nursing program. These all started from nothing and with minimal expense.

3. Parish nursing,. All churches should have something in place; even for just blood pressure checks, etc.

4. Hospice nursing. This started by individuals and now is a thriving area of nursing.

5. Outpatient clinics on islands where there is little to no medical care.

Please feel free to add to the list here......................

And use this thread only for listing things that can be done.

Good idea.. Thanks mimeo!

A week ago, I submitted my resume @ red cross - qc.. They have plenty of activities especially that their anniversary is just around the corner.. :) Downside about participating in community service is, they can't assure our safety there, especially when taking surveys where its usually done individually (to save time.)

I heard about this "parish nursing." I'm kinda interested.. Is it popular here in the Philippines? (QC)

I was an officer of a medical missions and outreach programs organization of my college and we've done a lot of the same activities with the help of the Health Alliance for Democracy, Hope General Hospital in Novaliches and other sponsors. In this organization, I and other officers/members used to teach first aid/basic life support and elaborate on DOH's health advisories to barangays. Our organization's goal is to assist on enhancing the student's skills through more exposures and develop compassion by helping our less fortunate "kababayans". The school is not enough to provide good experience compared to the real world out there in the slums and far flung areas. I plan to go back and develop our organization's potential and include the suggestions posted in this thread. All for the greater glory of God, first and foremost. Let's hope and pray things will work out.

Thanks for the suggestions and please post some more.:yeah:

Suzanne, thank you for the ideas. It gave me new hope and i plan to form a group of nurses (the unemployed but good and sincere nurses)... to do outreach programs, etc etc.

I agree, we cannot depend on the gov't. always. we should be proactive.

Bravo to you Ms. Suzanne! You have always been a good influence to the nurses here on the site. I hope that there will be more people like you and Hoss that is will to share there God given talent to those in need. I plan to be a volunteer here in our town during the weekends. And I hope that I can join my cousin in one of his outreach programs in the Visayas area. Peace to all, and Good luck!:)

I love Suzzanes post I would like to do number 1 but I don't know how to start. I hope The PNA would support nurses that would start this program in the philippines.

Hi mr.gingerbreadman! I read that you use to be active in an organization that leads medical mission or outreach programs. Since you have experience in this already, maybe we can form a group for a medical mission.

People contributing to this thread, let's form a group and join medical mission. Go ako yan!

I volunteer to create an email group for all who want to get the ideas into action. But since the moderator does not encourage giving out personal contact details, maybe we can communicate thru PM or a separate thread for the group :)

@sincereandpassionate: Sorry I replied just now. Hmm...I'll see what I can do. My organization is still active even in my absence so I'll get them to coordinate with us. Also with the NGOs. But if you like, you can actually start by inquiring at your barangay health center. They'd be more than willing to help you out. Also approach the barangay captains and councilors. Although as you know, it'll be political all the way.:p:rolleyes:

Take care & Godbless:cool:

interesting thread...im very interested in hospice care...il check in our area if such facility is available..if not is it possible for me to start my own?would we be allowed to offer such service given that we are a bunch of fresh nursing graduates (licensed and registered)?

You are only limited by what it permitted by your government in terms of licensure, etc. But there is no reason why you could not provide this service.
