Job Titles of CNA, what to look for in job search

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Hey all you CNA's!

I am currently looking into taking a CNA cert. course and job searching at the same time, so I was wondering if anyone could help me out by telling me what to look for in job titles for jobs that CNA's qualify for? Obviously job titles with RN or NP are out of the question, but do job titles specifically say CNA or would CNA's be overqualified for jobs such as Mental Health Techs, etc?

(This may be a very stupid question and I hope it makes sense.. basically, what job titles do you CNA's hold/have held? I'm looking to go to nursing school but thought about getting the CNA for experience beforehand.)

Thanks! :)

I have seen a lot of job postings in Oregon that require a CNA license once you click on the details portion, under the names of, Aides, Patient Care Techs, OB Tech, Activity Coordinator (for LTC's), Activity Aides, Mental Health Tech, Hospital Aide, and Unit Coordinator, and then of course CNA. I would click on whatever seems a CNA would be qualified for and do a lot of searching. Sometimes what you think may not be a CNA position, actually is!

The hospital near me posts jobs for "Nursing Assistants", then when you click on them to read the description, it says "CNA/CPR required". If you are scrolling through a list of medical type job openings, I would pay close attention to anything with the word "assistant" in the title.

I have been looking for a CNA job forever and have seen these positions listed. PCT (Patient Care Technician) and HCT (Health Care Technician); both positions have only stated possession of a CNA license and BLS from the American Heart Association as requirements...plus experience. Also some Unit Secretary positions require a CNA license. This is in Colorado so I don't know if other states are different.

Here are some titles that require a CNA certificate:

1. PCT (patient care technician)

2. PCA (patient care assistant)

3. NA (nursing assistant)

4. MHT (mental health technician)

5. Direct care staff member
