job search

Specializes in ICU.

I've been searching for a job in the local hospitals of Virginia with no luck. I have 2 years LPN experience in an urgent care setting and graduated from RN school in June. I passed my boards in July and have been actively applying to any and all positions in a hospital and calling to follow up on them with no activity. I feel like as a nurse you need at least a year of hospital experience to your enhance skills. But, since I haven't had any luck with the job search, do I continue to look or move up within the urgent care facility I'm currently working at? I do some clinical skills at this facility but we mostly work under the physicians. I'm torn on what I should do, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My suggestion - keep looking if you so choose, but keep your current job. Get them to update you to RN status. That way you should get better compensation , but most importantly, you can record this as RN experience for your continued job search.

Good luck.
