I am a new graduate registered nurse in Ohio with her license and I'm having a hard time with finding a job that doesn't require 1+ years of experience. I've applied for several positions, followed up, and had a couple interviews to no avail. I've tried sending out my resume with cover letter to various hospitals with no results yet. Any advice on what else I should do or where to go? Please help me!
Talk to all you nursing school buddies and any other nurses that you know. They will be able to give you hot tips on which facilities are hiring. They can put in a good word for you and often help you get an interview before job vacancies are posted. Have some business cards printed up and give a couple to each of your employed nursing buddies. Ask your buddies to pass your cards along to ANYONE who might be hiring.
If no luck, then you may have to consider moving or taking some other sort of work until the market improves. I hope you are in a situation where you can pick up and move. It can be a great learning opportunity to see how people do things in another region. It can also be a wonderful thing to experience the culture/traditions in a different part of the country.
I am in the same boat...2 degrees, 3 if you count associates degrees. Passed multiple licensures. Sent out numerous resumes. I feel like the situation is bleak. Yes, I know that eventually I will find something but I'd rather not lose my home in the process. I will be looking for ANY seasonal work soon.
Just keep applying, I recommend face to face application. So far I have had 4 interviews and all of them because I went thier in person. I always ask for business card and contact info , even if it is clerk's number. One clerk was so impressed that I remember her name and talk to her with respect, she make sure my resume was looked by the recruiter and I got interview. The point is just try to get something out of it when ever you apply in person and do follow up.
I just got a job, on Friday, that one too I got the first interview when I applied on foot, that was wayback in June, then they call me at the end of July for 2nd interview but eneded up canceling it because they said they gave the position for someone internal, I was devestated. But the recruiter said she will consider me for Nov position and just like she said I got the call and got accepted.
I really hope and wish you get something. I feel so lucky. I did not even post it on Facebook that I got a job, because so many of my classmates are on facebooka and still nothing. Its very hard time but keep on trying and pray!
Wish you all the best
