I need some advice from some experienced RN's that is familiar with the Houston Tx hospitals. I am a RN with one year of experience, but not in a hospital setting. Skilled nursing and hospice has been my recent experience. Im seeking hospital experience to widen my knowledge and skills. I have a job offer at St. Joseph Medical Center (med surg unit) and Memorial Hermann in the Med. Center (neuro acute unit) Im not sure which one would be the best decision. Pay is not a factor, im just trying to gain experience at this point. I am aware that St. Joseph is an older hospital, whereas Memorial Hermann is a top hospital and very well advanced in just about everything. Ive heard many stories about top hospitals in the med center where doctors and nurses have a very callous persona and extremely patronizing. I would appreciate the advice, this will truly help me and others as well.

Do you want to stay in Neuro? MH TMC is highly regarded for their Neuro program, however, if it's experience as you say, then med-surg at St. Joseph's will give you a wider range of diagnoses and more exposure to different situations/conditions. I would think (and I'm just graduating so what do I know) that would be the one if you want to see more different cases.

MH TMC is a dream for many, I would not pass that up. I'd love to hear what you ended up choosing.

Having had family as patients in North Western and St Lukes, nurses at NW med surg were more harried, busy but still nice.As out patient at NW not so good there had to step in and remind them about their handling of patient,....
The newer St lukes was awesome in care, clean, modern, nurses excelled in ....friendliness.
