Job Market for new BSN grads in Connecticut

Published

Hello all! I was just wondering what the job market is like back in CT.

I currently live in the Pacific NW and am applying to ABSN programs back in southern New England (where I am from). I am applying to Quinnipiac, Rhode Island College, Curry, and maybe a couple other programs. Ive volunteered and shadowed nurses and all that, and am sure I want to work as a nurse (in Hospice or Psychiatric, ultimately).

BUT, it is a huge investment both time wise and $ wise and you hear horror stories about the job market. Most of which says you need a BSN to get that first job, and even then, it aint a sure thing like it used to be.

I'd really appreciate some feedback from recent grads (esp. grads of ABSN programs) about your experience in landing that all important first job.

Thanks so much!

I don't want to drag you down but I know a lot of new nurses in CT who are having a very difficult time getting a job, myself included. I graduated last May with my BSN and haven't even had an interview, nevermind gotten a job. I had previous CNA experience, 7 years of customer service experience, and management experience. I didn't have any shadow or volunteer experience (nursing-related, anyway) and that would probably be a big push for you.

Whatever you decide, I wish you luck!

The job market is horrible for even seasoned RNs. And forget it if you aren't already in a position trying to get a clinical job. It's important to make and maintain nursing contacts. CT is small but it seems there's a lot of RNs vying for a limited number of clinical positions. No shortage here.
