Job market & pay for Murrieta, CA area

U.S.A. California

Published

Hello,

I'm hoping to find out the job market and pay around Murrieta, CA?

I have four years experience as an ED nurse. Certified, BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NRP, and sexual assault nurse examiner.

I have a BSN.

I currently work for the state as a nurse case manager (started 6 months ago). Will I have an easier time finding a job as an ED nurse or case manager?

Is it a nightmare getting licensed in CA? (I heard from co-workers it was)

Thanks!

Getting licensed in CA can be a pain. Not a nightmare, per say, but a pain, and time consuming. I came to CA as a traveller and had to push back my start date due to my license not yet being processed (it took 10 weeks to get endorsed).

The majority of my friends (and myself) came to CA as travelers and found permanent positions that way, but it's not impossible. An RN in the ED at Inland Valley (in Murrieta) told me he started as registry (agency) and got hired full time that way. Murrieta is my home town but I don't live there. Loma Linda opened a campus in Murrieta a few years ago, and they're a teaching facility; the other two are community, for-profit hospitals, and there's also the new hospital in Temecula.

I applied a couple years ago in Murrieta to med surg positions (2.5 yrs experience at the time in teaching facilities) and got no bites. That doesn't mean you won't! From some of the postings I've seen at Loma Linda in Oncology (my specialty) and what they require that might be what you're looking for.

As far as pay, most of Southern CA has pay in the $40's/hr. I think Murrieta is around the same, even though cost of living is much lower than Los Angeles or San Diego. It's been a couple years since I've looked for positions in Murrieta, so I apologize if my answers are somewhat vague. I hope it helps a little!

Many of the regional hospitals are expanding their ERs so that should be easy for you. For case management, consider the Oceanside VA. It is new and has openings I believe (40 mins maybe from Murrieta but it's 5 mins from the beach).

Thank you for your response. I have worked at both a teaching hospital/Level 1 and a regional hospital. I had gained great experience from both. I would not mind a regional hospital... I read an older thread saying that Loma Linda pays and treats nurses horribly? What is it like being a nurse in one of these hospitals? How many patients per nurse? Isn't there a patient/nurse ratio? I believe for the ED it should be according to ESI (Emergency Severity Index-triage) rather than simply "three" patients. If I asked to be paid $45 an hour, would they laugh at me? Do you know what the shift differential is for overnights? (I'm used to working overnights in the ED and enjoy it better than days).

Thanks for all your advice. I appreciate it... it would be a huge move coming from the East coast.

I, myself had applied for med-surg-tele positions in the Murrieta-Temecula area in the last 2 years with NO bites LOL!. I have years of experience working in another hospital in North County SD. I recently tried again...thinking maybe things changed?? This time I was soo excited & I got a little nudge & actually had an interview...but NO call back whatsoever . It's been about a month...I just dont get it..I live in the area & it would be nice to get a part-time or per-diem position. Oh well...I heard Kaiser will be opening up in a few years here...maybe I'll wait till then??

hello, if you dont mind...why are you moving to the Murrieta area in particular? i don't know how fast you want or need to start working, but maybe try the agencies first...that way you can find out how other facilities are without having to be committed to just one off the bat. also, you might have a better chance in the bigger hospitals in North San Diego (40 miles) away. if you want to work nights...theres no traffic :)

High 30s low 40s would be pay range. Im not sure how ong the california RN licensing process takes. Theres rancho springs med center, inland valley med center as well. Temecula valley opened a hospital too.

Jeeze! It sounds like Murrieta is a tough area to get a nursing job, huh? My husband and I are looking into Murrieta/Temecula. I was thinking about the travel nurse gig, but it would be nice to have something set in stone. Thanks for the advice, I will have to check the hospitals out.

How long ago was your ER experience? If you've been doing case management a while it might make it "harder" to find a bedside job. I'm sorry you are having trouble. Have you attempted calling the HR of these hospitals directly?

Good feedback.

I have been out of Emergency nursing for 6 months. So i'm a new case manager. I am open to case management or ED nursing. I haven't started applying. I wanted to receive information on the job market for Murrieta area. Not 100% sure we are heading that way yet. Thanks for your responses!

I just received my CA license Nov. 30, 2014. June 15, 2014: Sent everything by Certified Mail w/return receipt (so they couldn't say they didn't get it), spoke directly with my administration at my nursing school, and stayed on the phone with them while they e-mailed my transcript as well as mailed an original copy to California, and did the same with the Board of Nursing here in Colorado while they sent my nursing license. August 2014, went online to CA website, notification was my check had been cashed. They would inform me when my application was in process. October 2014: application in process per CA website. Nov. 30, 2014, RN Nursing License received. I had to stand on top of their heads and bang away and do everyone's job for them, and this was the advice of the DORA, Department of Regulatory Agencies, nursing division, because they are so messed up over at the CA Board of Nursing in Sacramento, who takes care of all of us, they alot of times will throw applications away that even have EVERYTHING they need. They did that to me back in 2010. Thank goodness they did not cash my check. So this time I went thru DORA, nursing dept. consumer affairs to get advice on how to handle it. It still took 5.5mo. to get my license, but by gosh, I've got it!!!
