I am an ER nurse and am a few weeks pregnant. I would like to get a nursing job that is less strenuous during my pregnancy. Does anyone have any ideas of what I could do? Just thought I'd put it out there...

Have you considered newborn nursery, post partum, NICU, or Home Health?

I worked on my floor (tele) until one week before my toddler was born. I would have stayed longer except the charge nurse wouldn't let me come in when she found out I was contracting regularly (but like every 30-45 minutes) and was dilated at 2. We've had a rash of nurses have babies recently, and pretty much all of them did the same as I did. I can understand not wanting to be in ED, with the unpredictablity of the patients, but you should be able to do OK on pretty much any floor of the hospital as long as it progresses normally. I actually think that I recovered as quickly as I did b/c I kept working for so long.

How about a day surgery center or ambulatory surgery center. For the most part all are elective procedures, most are healthy, and most are ambulatory....no total care. However I agree with the previous poster, you should really be fine in any setting of the hospital as long as you use your head!

I would work in a "clean" area if I were you-
Nursery, NICU, L&D, etc.
Although some pregnant women may not want to be that close up to the action!
I was pregnant while I was in nursing school- went to my first surgeries, c-sections, saw my first births, etc. all while pregnant, and it didn't bother me- I loved it.
But I can see how it could.
But if you are more or less just trying to stay off of your feet, I would try home health, or private duty for a while.
It can get repetative- but its not very physical.
