Published

I will be visiting as many LTC's/ SNF's as I can next week but can anyone give me advice on applying. Is it proper to ask for the don? or can I just ask the receptonist? totally lost but thanks in advance to all that post :)

Introduce yourself, let them know why you are there, and ask who do I need to speak to. If they just give a application, make sure ask name of the DON and the person who you need to bring the app back to. Receiving a business card with names would be great.

Yeah I would say to just let the person at the front dest know you are an LPN and interested in applying for a position there and wondered if you could complete an application. Once completed the person taking it from you will take care of getting it to the right person/people. If they are a facility where the DON has the time and likes to come out and meet applicants I am sure the receptionist will ask if you have a few minutes for the DON to speak to you. Often they are very busy so I wouldn't be too pushy. I worked as the Staff in-service coordinator and my DON was always too busy to interview so the HR person would call and set up interviews and call me and let me know when they were there and I would interview. So who calls you and who interviews you may depend on the facility--they all run a bit differently. Good luck to you.

Hello. Congratulations on your recent graduation! Though it might be tempting to ask for the director of nursing when you first apply in order to quickly learn the "nursing scoop" on any job openings, I agree with the writers who say to start by kindly asking a receptionist about the job application process at that facility. One of my pals is a director of nursing at long term care facilitiy, and she says she has to schedule meetings with nursing applicants because she is often crazy busy in her role---that way she can be prepared to warmly greet the applicants, review their completed applications, and kindly answer their professional job questions. Best wishes!
