JJC (Joliet Junior College) Fall 2015

U.S.A. Illinois

Hey I don't know if a thread has already been started for this program but I am interested in applying for the February 15th deadline for the Fall 2015 start date at JJC. I haven't signed up for my TEAS yet because I don't want to pick a date that is too early or too late since I also need to begin studying but I was thinking about signing up for the Feb 2nd 4th or 5th date. If anyone else is applying to the program or is currently in the program please feel free to reply and share anything that you can. Thanks =)

I read in a different forum that there is like 60 something spots for day and 24 or so for night. I put that I prefer evenings, but can do days. I really prefer evenings because i have 3 kids to take care of in the mornings and such, but I don't want to take away an evening spot ( if I get in) from somebody who really only CAN do evenings. Do you know what I mean? I'm debating whether or not I want to purchase the online practice test. SIGH. SO MUCH PRESSURE!

Yeah I get it. I know that a lot of people, like you, have families and even full time jobs that they can't work around so I know the evening time would work best for them. I also contemplated doing nights but can do days but ultimately I just want to get into the program. I can try and work around whatever schedule I end up with. I didn't purchase the online practice test but I heard that it was pretty helpful and usually whatever people score on there they end up doing better on the actual test b/c I guess the actual test isn't as hard. It's just kind of expensive for me right now so I'm just using the study guide in hopes that by itself it will still be good help

Have you met with a nursing advisor yet?

Yes, I met with an advisor back in September. Have you?

Yes, I met with an advisor back in September. Have you?

No not yet. I was going to wait until after I took the TEAS, I don't know if that's too late though? I spoke to someone on the phone today and they advised me to make an appointment to see someone early next week but what exactly is the appointment supposed to be about?

Well, when I met with her, she had printed out my file so all my grades and TEAS score and everything was right in front of her. She went through and checked off all the pre-reqs that were completed as well as my gpa for all the pre-reqs. She also circled that I've obtained my CNA already saying it's not necessary to apply but that it's great that I have it. She then discussed how the program works, answered any questioned I had, etc. At the time, she also discussed the whole application process and what she personally thought my chances were at getting in, etc.

Long story short, it was basically making sure all my ducks were in a row to apply. You are supposed to meet with an adviser, too, because they are the people that can change your major code on your file to Nursing instead of general or whatever else it may be listed as.

Were you trying to apply for a different semester at JJC during that time since you took the TEAS? I think i'll just make an appointment for next week but I'll call tomorrow to see if it's absolutely necessary to do it before I take the TEAS

I actually used to be in the Radiology program, that's why I had already taken the TEAS test. How are you feeling about your chances of getting in?

Oh ok, cool. I did talk to someone in the nursing department and I'm just going to meet with an advisor after I take the TEAS. I'm not sure =/ I'm nervous about the test especially since the science portion is given more consideration. I haven't really studied yet but I do have all of the pre-reqs completed I believe so maybe that will help some. What about you?

I'm not sure what my chances are. So far, from my previous TEAS exam, I have 79 ( I got a 79.5, i wish they rounded up!!!!) composite, with a 65% in Science :/ I have all of my pre-reqs completed with a 4.0, and have my CNA, but that doesn't do much in terms of the actual application and getting in. I am just trying to focus as much as I can in the next week to really get some studying down. I am working on trying to re-teach myself basic fundamentals in all subjects. What are you doing to study? I'm still on the fence about whether or not I want to spend ANOTHER good amount of money for the practice tests online.

My biggest problem is that I've been out of school for 3 years, so I"m very very fuzzy on so many subjects!

I'm trying to put the majority of my focus on math and science b/c when I took the TEAS for the first time about 2 years ago for a different school i got a 72 =/ but i also hadn't taken any a&p at the time but math and science is usually kind of hard for me in general but I do pretty well with reading and grammar. I'm looking through the study guide and using the report that I received from my first TEAS that broke down the areas that I need to focus on and it also gives the pages in the study guide that coincide with those areas.

You did really well for your first attempt! I think if you got the same score or close to it you'll have a great chance of getting in. But yeah I think studying the fundamentals will be good with a bit more emphasis on the science. If I remember correctly, I think a&p was covered a lot. Do you know how many questions there are for each section?

Fingers crossed for both of us!!!! I think I will schedule an appt to meet with an advisor next week after the TEAS as well.

Hi guys! I just took my TEAS and got a 79.3% composite. I have an appointment with an adviser next week. Does anyone know what the daytime program vs evening program hours are?
