Has there been a thread created for Johns Hopkins Fall 2018 MSN Entry into Nursing program? is there anyone applying to this program??

Oh that's a good point! I was accepted Dec. 22, so those also accepted on that date are likely to have a decision date of January 24.

I requested a deadline extension, and they pushed it back to February 7th (which I am super grateful for). Also, does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get to Baltimore from NYC? I'm traveling around the East Coast, and thought it would be a great idea to visit JHU's Nursing Campus. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Either take the bus or train. Megabus is cheap and roughly 3.5 hours as long as you dont get stuck in traffic. There are also other options but Ive only used that company. Amtrak is also a good option. It goes to Penn station in Baltimore

Is there a current student following this thread that would be willing to talk a little bit about their experience in the program? I'd love to hear about cohort size, class sizes, quality of the classes, quality of the simulation labs, 1:1 advising and access to professors, and a little about clinicals! I'm also curious in how the communication is overall within the program (I've heard there are some regular hiccups at Columbia, and I'm not sure if that's the case across the board)?

Also, how is the tone of the program? Is it super-competitive/graded on a curve? Or pretty collaborative with your peers?

I would love to hear someone in the program address those questions, too! I did talk a bit to some of the first years who were there at the fall open house/information session, and all of them emphasized that the program was highly collaborative. One student told me that unlike her undergrad experience, where classmates and peers would instantly say "What did you get on this exam?" and compare their grades to yours, JHU SoN students seemed far less nosy/involved in comparing their grades. She spent a lot of time telling me how students worked together, helped each other, and had a sort of "no nurse left behind" mentality. When we visited the lab, one of the instructors was talking about how students got multiple chances to get things right, and could go to Open Lab to practice skills they were having difficulty mastering. She joked that when the students finally got it right, she gave them candy, and several of the current students were laughing and nodding. That said, I am sure that the program is super rigorous and people have to work very, very hard to do well in it. I just don't think it sounds like some of the things people used to say about Hopkins medicine, about how everyone was in competition with each other and it was cutthroat.

Did anyone who was accepted tune into the "understanding financial aid" webinar? I was not able to make it, but I am extremely curious as to what they had to say.

I did not attend, but the email about the webinar says they will send you a recording of it if you provide the financial aid/financial services office with your email. My understanding is that the SoN has a series of scholarships and grants that they give out for our program based on merit. Other than those, the financial aid office provides access to work-study funds and loans, once you file the FAFSA and another application that the SoN financial aid office makes available. In order to access that application, you must make your deposit of $500 to hold your place, I think. Has anyone here decided for sure to go?

Hello, I tuned into the webinar and have already recieved my financial aid information. You don't have to put down your deposit to get your full financial aid info. After your FAFSA is verified, call the financial aid office and ask how to apply for aid. They sent me an email with login information a few days later and they release financial aid information on Fridays. I belive that whatever scholarships/grants that JHU gave you when they sent your acceptance packet is what you get - they don't give you additional aid beyond work study and federal loans. The webinar was not overly helpful. It mostly showed where to find scholarship and loan information. They also discussed work-study, which they do offer. The highest they'll give is $2000/year. They also talked briefly about repayment options (Nurse corp, PSFL, state-specific programs, etc.). I hope this is helpful!

I just put down my deposit yesterday and there are a few other people on the facebook group (Johns Hopkins School of Nursing MSN Entry into Nursing Fall 2018) that have committed to the program.

Am new on allnurses...Good to be here. Thank you all so much for the loads of information and encouragement on this plateform.

Am not just encouraged but very hopeful reading your posts.

I applied to Hopkins MSN ENTRY into nursing via nursingcas. Turned in my application 1 of January,2018 for fall 2018.

My application has just been verified by NursingCAS . When do I expect to hear from Hopkins. John Hopkins has been a long time dream.

Am hopeful....

Any suggestions on what I can do as I wait to hear from Hopkins.My cumulative GPA is 3.67.
