No packet for me, either, yet, and I live in Baltimore! I called yesterday to ask if I should be worried I had not received it, but was told no, that they went out late last week and the holiday probably held things up. Can someone who got their packet tell me: Was financial aid information included?

No, financial aid info was not included. Just the scholarship the school of nursing offers.

Are you sure upenn doesn't give you a DNP? We are both in the same boat I am also going for FNP and I am not interested in stoping and then going to school later on

From what I understand, the UPenn Program is a BSN + MSN. They may have a DNP Program (I don't know), but that would be in addition to the 3 years you dedicate to the initial ABSN+MSN Program, which may not be favorable when looking at it in relation to time.

I was not aware that JHU will do the MSN/DNP in 4 years. My understanding is that the MSN is 21 months then you work and can get the DNP in 3 years. Did you find information on their website that indicated otherwise? I also know Penn is preparing an accelerated DNP which would allow you to finish in as little as a year maybe, but I'm also not sure the details of that. Let me know what you think!

So I'm not too sure about the logistics between the MSN portion and the DNP portion, but I did read that a certain amount of credits from the MSN portion can carry over to the DNP portion. It was around 15 credits, so I equated it to around a semester in time. I could totally be wrong about my interpretation of the material, but I do remember reading about that. But judging from the new information on this forum, it would be a little more than 4 years for both the MSN + DNP if you did it seamlessly.

So what are some ways you all are paying for this education other than scholarships? Are you taking out federal or private loans, or both, or getting help from parents/spouse? Some saved up money? A starting RN salary is about 45,000-50,000 but with a ton of over time one can make up to 60,000, probably. Do you think it is worth it to invest $100,000+ for this degree? I want to say it is! I visited the school it was awesome. The curriculum is great! The reputation is priceless...except it's not! Lol But even continuing to the DNP is another 3-4 year investment of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I guess the reality is sinking in for me that unfortunately I don't think I can afford taking so many loans out. I will die in debt if I do on a Nurses salary. It doesn't seem practical. But if you have the money to invest it's definitely worth it. I wish I had some money lol. :( :nailbiting: just wanted to see if anyone is in the same boat!

Someone above said that the admissions packet does not contain information on need-based financial aid, though it does include info on any scholarships that some students have been awarded. So does anyone know when need-based financial aid award offers will go out? I think many of us would need to know what our total financial aid award will be before we can make a decision to make the $500-hold-my-place deposit. Anyone know?

By need based financial aid are you talking about government loans through FAFSA? if so, a financial aid person told me those federal loan awards wont be determined until June 2018 when the Dept. of Education is ready to go through that process for Fall for all schools. I am not sure if that is what you are asking about.

It seems like we need to pay the deposit fee to hold our place and if things don't work out or you get a better offer at another school you have to reject your spot at JHU and go for that school (even if it means sacrificing your $500 deposit). But I'm not sure if that is even allowed.

According to Laura Panozzo (admissions counselor for JHU), this was only the first batch of acceptances. Not all acceptances have been given out.

Good question. On the SoN website, it says that the school has its own application for financial aid, which you have to fill out separately. This made it sound as if the SoN does give out some need based aid. That is what I was asking about. I didn't realize that federal loans, etc. through FAFSA are not determined until the summer.

According to the lady I spoke with, that separate/JHU specific financial aid application becomes available to students once they submit their deposit. At least that is my understanding. I would check with the Financial Aid office at JHU SON.
