My regrets.
Please review the many many threads on nursing in Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Delray Beach Florida.
I am a native Floridian, from the "old" Florida - strawberry farms, horses, cows, lakes - and I would not ever take a job in the WPB/Delray/Boca Raton ever again. It is a total nightmare - lousy ratios, inadequate support, rude MDs, and nasty nasty entitled rich people visting or transplants from other states. The hospitals also feed the entitlement issues by being customer service oriented at the expense of safe healthcare. And travelers getting dumped on majorly. In addition, you will be there during the dreaded snowbird season. masssive waits in the ER, hall beds in many hospitals, multiple DC, admits of really aggravatedpeople that have been in the ER to long. plus direct admits of people that are crashing.
While I have not worked JFK myself - I never had success with getting any assignments at a Columbia/HCA (no loss), I interviewed with them and was not impressed. But quite frankly that entire area of Florida is a Hades triangle for nurses.

I have been at JFK for three winter assignments out of the last four years. Missed one due to a change in companies and was required to stay away for a year. It is a very busy hospital and most of the patients are geriatric. It is rare to have someone under 60 years of age. I work OR so I can't comment on what the Floor or ER are like. I have met nurses in orientation that have come back for multiple assignments and do work the telemetry floors. Good luck.
Yaaaay. Good to hear! Sigh of relief. Did u work nights?
Sorry no. 7a to 7p are my scheduled hours. May stay late on occasion and take night time call. Don't want to work nights much anymore. Am up at 0430 most mornings and even 0530 on the weekends. When do you start?
O wow.lol. I start Feb 8th. Was the staff friendly/helpful?
You will have a good time at orientation. Arrive early and dress in layers. I never get cold, especially in South Florida but some report the room is freezing. For the most part the staff is helpful and friendly. They don't tolerate unhappy, grumpy or inactive people much though. Like I said, JFK is a very busy hospital. Keeping upbeat is important. Let me know if you need anything while you are here. I will be here till April at least and most likely till early June.

Awww. Thanks a lot. I didn't realize you were there now! Great. Is oreination M-F? I haven't received my schedule yet. And I'm a easy person to get along with, definitely not grumpy.:-)
Monday will be spent in the first level confrence rooms with Breakfast and lunch served. You will be asked to provide your licenses (drivers and nursing) Certificates (BLS&ACLS) your license plate number and a toothy smile for you photo ID. Tuesday will be at another location for computer training. Hopefully you have used Meditech so it will go smoothly for you. There will be a nursing test and they give you a study sheet late Monday afternoon. The rest of the week is unknow to me as the OR uses a different charting program than the rest of the hospital (EMR). I think you can plan on at least 4 10 hour shifts to start your time. They won't want you to do overtime though. At least not at the start. Heading off on a Sunday motorcycle ride so I won't be able to immediatly respond again.
Ok. I'm excited. Is the test hard? And I have used meditech so that's good. Later
No not really. A few drugs and some calculations. IV drip rates and stuff. Maybe some scenarios of what you would do "IF". I have never studied for it and haven't failed. Been out of school for over 20 years so it can't be too hard.
