Hey! I thought I would start a thread for all the people that are applying for summer admittance into jeff state so we could get to know our possible future classmates. They're accepting 50 on each campus and with the compass completely gone, and the teas v being solely relied on plus course points of course, I think this will make for a INTERESTING admission process to say the least! Any input and comments are welcomed;-)
I was accepted in to the summer program but after a positive finding on my background screening ( it was harassment of communications.....long story short ...bad divorce.....) I will not be allowed to attend clinical's so I will not be able to go through......im trying to have it removed now but does anyone have any advice or maybe had this same situation happen to them?
@bamabeach- thanks for the info! Were taking fundamentals, health assessment, and pharmacology (That's the class I'm really worried about!) thank GOD were not taking patho. I took that at jeff state last summer and girl I almost had a nervous break down! I rather take the physiology part of a&p ten times before I take that class again! I came out with a 86 but I busted my but for it! Hopefully it will help me out in med surg like I was told it would! I'm trying to be in tip top of stuff better than I have been in the past! I'm retaking physiology a's a mini term to a) get a better grade and b) to get use to alot of information in a short amount of time. I've also taken a cna class I just finished a couple of weeks ago so hopefully that helps me out some in fundamentals an judging by the table of contents of my fundamentals book- I know most of the stuff already! ( my teacher was a nurse for 60+ years). It's just pharmacology I'm scare to death of! I've heard jeff state out of all 2 and 4 year programs in the state is the hardest program to go through! More so because try teach medical theory and nursing instead of just nursing. Matter of fact our program is considered harder to get into than uab or ua's program is. 800 applicants for the fall and spring semester is nothing to jeff state! And the summer while, not a's competitive to get into a's tw fall and spring foam what I heard we still had around 350 applicants and they only chose 50 for the Jefferson campus and 60 for the Shelby campus so while I'm honored to be chosen I'm absolutely terrified!!
@dixiemici- firstly is it a misdemeanor or felony... Judging by he charge I'm thinking misdemeanor. Secondly how long Ago has that been sine you were charged??? Because if it's a misdemeanor and it's been longer than 3 years you can still accept your spot. If it's a felony and it's been linger than 7 years you can still accept your spot. How do I know? I had a situation I was scared would show up but turns out I was worried for nothing and Bonnie glass HERSELF Explained to me about the rule for convictions.
It was a misdemeanor and it has only been 2 years.......I m trying to figure out if i can appeal the clinical agencies or something......its the only thing on my record.....I don't even have speeding tickets. Maybe I can request to have a meeting with them....not sure does anyone know if this can be done?
The inly thing that I can suggest is that you can ask Bonnie glass if she can appeal to the clinicals sites to see if you can still do clinicals. From what I understand this CAN be done. I know of people in lawson's, and bevilll program that has misdemeanors and as long as it was non violent, then they were allowed to do clinicals. I hate this is happening to u!
Yeah, pharmacology can be tough...If you want to review it, just go over and study the classes - Know the general classifications, actions, CI's, adverse effects and maybe some key patient teaching. As far as prepping for what drugs to go over, I would just hold off until class starts. Each course is different for requiring which drugs you need to know. If you know the basic classes of each and how to recognize the basic suffix of each drug such as "-olol, -lol" are your beta blockers, you should do fine going into the class. You kinda build your drug knowledge with each semester so don't worry if you don't get it all from the get go. Plus you will get more familiar with them as you use them in a clinical setting. I wish I had this prep advice before I started LOL
No, I've known since the end of February. Haha I live in Tuscaloosa and have tried Shelton State twice and haven't been able to get in, but I took the TEAS for a 2nd time the beginning of January and scored a pretty good bit higher and applied for Jeff State and thankfully I got in!!! I cried and cried and cried! Haha But I am moving back towards that area after this semester at Shelton where I am taking my Micro. I'm ready to start!!!
Lol congrats! I'm in the library studying 202 now on SPRING BREAK! that's dedication! I'm so ready to start to! Ive already ordered all my books so unless they throw some type of curve ball at orientation on the books(like totally changed up the books- and they better not! I bugged the hell out of bonnie and she assured me that they wouldn't change it!) I feel like Im as prepared as I can be! and I was gonna apply to shelton! I haven't really heard that much about the program to and the fact they don't do federal loans kinds of scare me.. I mean I'm not going to be getting one at jeff state- I have a partial scholarship and my mom will fork up the rest - but you never know what can happen in the future! I may need one! I wonder where we will be doing clinicals at?

Summer programs are rough, you have a short amount of time to complete a semester's worth of work...I did so at UA last summer, it was hell. Though, if you survive it, it will be worth it. Just remember to stay on top of your game, don't slack at all or you will be behind before you know it. And remember to ask for help if you feel like you are sinking. Im not sure what the CC curriculum will be like for the summer, but we had 5 classes for the BSN program including Patho which nearly kicked my butt! Good luck!!!
