Jeff State Summer 2014 Hopefuls

Published

Hi my name is Nicole I currently attend Jeff State at the Jefferson Campus. I applied for the nursing summer program and would like to see who else applied. Also any concerns, advice and encouragement that we could possibly give or tell each other!!!! Good Luck to all!!!!

So I have a question im quiting my job in may and probably will start back in August. Do you think its possible to work amd be in nursing school?

Yes, but only if your job is very understanding about you changing your schedule at any given notice. If you don't mind me asking, what do you do?

Daycare! I could work 3-6 but I'm just scared!

I have a friend in my class that works at a daycare too. She works on our off days and then afternoons on our half days & clinicals. She makes good grades too. Don't be scared!!

hi all does anyone know how to get the cpr requirement? do i have to attend a class for that? thanks!

Yes, you will have to attend a class. They will tell y'all all about those classes at orientation. I would suggest doing the one they offer at the campus. The lady that teaches them is awesome!! Don't stress about anything other than your background check until orientation.

Im going to have to quit my job in may as well. They are known to not work with peoples school schedule. Fortunately I do side jobs to make a little extra change. Although I'm really nervous about letting my job go, I know its for the better.

Does anyone know how the schedule was last summer. Id like to get an idea of how to plan my days.

Oh I am not asking my school to work around my job lol. That is not an option! My job would have to work around my schooling. Even if I did go back in August it would be 2 or 3 days a week from 3-6. If it got to hard I would quit.

Hey guys! Congrats to everyone who got in! I am applying for fall! Just a question for those who may know, or those on this thread that are already in the program.. What do I need supply wise? (stethoscope, etc.) I am going to try to start getting stuff a little at a time since I know it will be so much money coming out at once with books, shots, scrubs, and everything else. Thanks so much! & again, congrats to all of you who made it in!!

You will be given a list at orientation. There are only a few things that you need that you can get on your own without school codes. Bandage scissors, pen light and stethoscope are some. My advice is to make sure you buy your stethoscope in person and not online. It doesn't matter which brand you buy or what's most popular... What is most important is that you can hear out of it. You can't listen through them online. Invest in a good comfortable pair of shoes too. All white all leather, nothing impermeable to bodily fluids.

Thank you! I am looking at a Littman Classic stethoscope. They have them here at the scrub shop nearby. I'm not looking at spending too much on one, but I want a good reliable one so the Littman Classic fit both price wise and quality. I was also looking at getting the Cherokee shoes. All white leather. They had pretty good reviews and I can find them online for under $50, so that's good. It all adds up so quickly, so I just want to get a head start on getting things! Thank you again!

@5starRN our schedule was Mon-friday for the first two or three weeks after that it depends on your clinical schedule but it will be at least three days a week with some half days you have pharm health assessment and fundamentals. And for those asking about cpr class I would do it through hoover fire department the guy is awesome and cheaper I think.
