Hello everyone! I am really hoping to get into the nursing program at the Clanton campus for the fall! ANY advice? I am already so nervous about getting accepted because I wasn't accepted last year at a different school!

I too was unsuccessful at Shelby first semester, I failed one class. It was a horrible experience, but I have reapplied and made Jefferson my 1st choice and I hope I get it because I also put Shelby as an option but honestly i'm not really up for dealing with all of the mess that goes on at that campus. Its so weird how the forums changed. Years ago Jefferson was the worst and everyone suggested Shelby, now its the opposite.

Congrats to All of you who are starting this summer. I will definitely pray for you all because summer is shorter and it will be intense and go by fast. It is very "do-able". If going to Shelby I'd suggest you start reading your Fundaments Chapters as soon as you get your syllabus. There is no such thing as cramming in nursing school, cant be done. Read each chapter until you have a thorough understanding. Also, start practicing NCLEX style questions and start going over the nursing process. My class learned this at the end of the semester which was backwards. If you learn how to approach Application style questions and think like a nurse this will help you tremendously when it comes time for tests and end of semester Hesi exams. Read Read Read. Health Assessment will be easy, again read and take notes in class and you will be successful. As for Pharmacology and Dosage Calculations when you read the blogs that says Jeff State does not teach Dosage Cal believe it. If you are not good in math or if it has been awhile since you've had a math class please start early in teaching yourself, using any available resources to learn, and get a tutor. The instructor is not helpful at all and will not show any concern for your well being it is all on you. Start to read your chapters for the drugs as soon as you get a syllabus because there will be no direction in terms of which specific drugs will be on the tests. You will be told to learn them all and there are nearly hundreds. Read your nursing considerations and nursing focus in each chapter. Try to keep your grades as high as you absolutely can because the end of semester Hesi exams can really make or break your grade. I really hope this helps you all. Just remember Nursing school is not easy but you can be successful in you start off right. Nobody told me any of the things I am telling you all, had I known things would have been different. Study hard, READ!!! Go to class, and most importantly learn to think like a nurse and you will be successful. GOOD LUCK!!!
