Jeff State Grads or Soon to be Grads

I am trying to figure out where to do my preceptorship. If you have graduated from Jeff State or are in your last semester at Jeff State, will you list where you did you preceptor (hospital & area/floor) & what you're experience was (like did you feel you covered a lot of skills, had a good preceptor, etc.)

I graduated last May. I did mine at UAB in the RNICU ( Regional Newborn Intensive Care Unit ) I loved it. Another girl from my class went to St. Vincent's NICU. I know several others did ER at either UAB or Shelby. A few were at Children's too. I think everyone was happy with their experience.

I would pick an area that you think you'd like to work in. Its a great way to get your foot in the door. Hope this helps!

If you are at the Shelby campus, they don't allow us to precept in children's or women's OB areas. They will let you do ER, Med/Surg, ICU, etc. however.

I will be doing my preceptorship at St Vincent's East but I won't know the floor or preceptor name until May 7.

My semester we were allow to do children's and women's. Sorry yall cant go there any more. I see to that you guys don't go to ICU in your last semester for clinical's either. Guess things have changed.

I saw that you were asking questions a while back about what classes you had to take as pre- reqs to enter the Jeff St. Nursing Program. I was wondering if you ended up taking all the pre- reqs or just what you needed to get in? I am looking for info. from people who have had to take a course like Micro or A&PII while in the program. Any info. is appreciated.

I'm in 3rd semester at Shelby. I took A&P 2 during first semester. It's miserable any way you do it because you pretty much are stuck taking the class at night. I had mine 5-8 mondays and wednesdays, and the people in micro this semester have it 5-8 mondays and wednesdays as well. But I'd just say do the classes you need as soon as possible, because first and second semester you only have 1 clinical a week and now we have 2 or 3 depending on the week.
