Jeff State 2011 Fall Hopefuls!

Published

any Jeff State Fall 2011 hopefuls out there??

I am taking the TEAS V Wednesday, so then I will know how many points I have!!! :)

Hi teaton my daughter and I were also there. We were sitting on the tables on the right. We were the third table back and were towards the wall. I thought the instructor was really good! Teejazzy was sitting on the first table on the right side. I am like you the closer it gets to orientation and class the more excited (and nervous) I get.!!! :nurse:

Hey you guys.... i posted a message on a post for the Fall 2010 hopefuls and requested tips or advice for people entering the program.... A couple of people responded and said that it would be a good idea to obtain the Calculate with Confidence book and go ahead and start practicing the math. I'm not sure if it's the same book that we will use or not but i went ahead and purchased it so i could practice. Some of it is stuff that we already know, but it seems to be alot of stuff. They said that we have 3 opportunities to pass the calculation test and if not passed on the 3rd try then we are kicked out of the program so i just wanted to pass this along... i'm reading the first chapter now and practicing those problems and they are things like fractions (add, sub, multiplication, and division) as well as being able to writing roman numerals...

Thanks teejazzy. Can you purchase it anywhere or did you get it from Jeff State?

Busymom35...I can't place who you were and it's driving me crazy! I remember teejazzy now b/c I remember her saying her name was tee. I love putting a face with the name.

Teejazzy...thanks for the info! I had heard that also. My husband was in nursing school and has some books I have been looking over. His dad's girlfriend is also a nurse and she gave me several nclex review books. I am trying to work on dosage calculations.

Hope y'all don't mind me posting here sometimes. I am going to shelton state not Jeff state but we will all be going through the same stuff.

@ busymom, I purchased it from Amazon.com but they do have it in the bookstore.. It's just a little bit more expensive in the bookstore..

@teaton, don't mind at all... we will all be going through the same thing... Did your husband give you any tips or advice while going through? What school did your husband go to? Did he enjoy it?....

Amazon is great! I found a pack of 6 pen lights for like $6.

Teejazzy...he was at Lawson state. He got accepted at Jeff state and shelton also but Lawson was the only place that offered the night program and you could finish up in the same amount of time so he chose to go there. He got through the first year and was working full time and doing nursing school. He just got burnt out. He already has a degree from UA in business so he already had work. We had also just had our 3rd daughter and were moving and had so much going on. He was doing well. We just decided that it was better for me to go to school. I REALLY want to do nursing and for him it was just something he thought he'd try. He did say for him med-surg was the toughest. His mom is a nurse that made all a's in school and her words were "med surge is a *****!". He of course told me to study and to really get organized. He said pharm was easy for him but math is no problem for him. He said yes it will be tough but he thinks I can do it since I am really wanting too. I sure hope so!

Teejazzy Thanks for the info I will definitely check into it.

Teaton I am sure you will do great in nursing school! If you are like me all you do is study, study, study!!!! Good Luck. It will not be much longer till we all get started!!!!!

Busymom35...thanks:)! Best of luck to you to! We CAN do this! So when is Jeff state's start day? We start the 22nd and orientation is this Thursday.

Teaton your are welcome and you are right WE Can DO THIS!!!!! Jeff States orientation is July 19th and classes start August 18th.

@ teaton.... it's great that you have that direct insight into what the program will be like... also since he's been through it he can certainly answer questions that you might have. How long has your mother in law been a nurse? What's her speciality? This is jumping the fun a bit, but i've always been curious to know at what point do we choose an area that we would like to work in? I guess its after getting that 1st job...

**good luck again you guys the calls should resume today.

Teaton what program are you entering?

Teejazzy...my husband will be 30 next month and his mom got her degree when he was little so she has been a nurse for a while! She works at Bryce mental hospital in Tuscaloosa. She has worked several places but it has always been mental health. I already know what I WANT to go into. I really would love to do labor and delivery. I loved having my babies and my relationship with my nurses. There are other areas that I would do but I know I would love l&d! I think a lot of people wait until some of the clinicals to see what they are most interested in. My husband was more interested in ICU or surgery.

Paige1188...I got into the RN program at shelton state.
