Jeff State admissions question

U.S.A. Alabama

Published

Hi, everyone. I am new around the boards and have a question.

I have attended JSCC in the past and am planning on reapplying for admission to the nursing program for the Spring '08 semester. I know they use a 200 pt scale for ranking candidates, but does anyone know how this scale breaks down?

Thanks! :)

Donna

Stef you are correct. I mixed up the 100 vs. 116. Math 100 is counted in Cat. 1 and Cat. 2.

NP. They really should have this paper up on the website for everyone to view. They have tons of people apply to the program not even having the correct classes by which they get the points from.

Stef please explain points being lower in St. Vincents program. I've never heard this.

I orginally planned on doing this myself as I have 3 kids and didnt want to pay for childcare in the summer months. James told me that the points were based the same way but tend to be lower. I belive they were as low as 175. Most everyone I talk to in my classes have no interest in this program so i would tend to think not as many apps are turned in. It does takes an extra year. This fall will be the third time as they only accept in the Fall for this program.

Just a hint for you... I dont recommend taking Micro the first semester of nursing. It is the hardest class you will have. I took it last summer. I also dont think they will let you take it then. My friend that got accepted into the summer session told me that she was told shed have to take it in her third semester. I can tell you that you are in classes everyday from 8- noon except for Tuesday which goes till 4 and then either Thrusday or Friday you will be in clincials with shifts like 7-3 or 3-11. I would strongly recommend taking Micro this summer if you can.

Who were were A&P teacher? I had Baker for both classes and loved him :) I also had Miller for Micro and well she nice but that was the hardest class I have ever had.

I have taken all of my pre-req's except for the Micro......The example schedule that you have given, is that including other classes also. Or just the Nursing courses.

Why would class go to 4 on Tuesday.... And as far as the clinicals how will you have clinicals on either day from 7-3 when class is until noon.

Here's the link to the summer schedule so you can see how it goes: http://faculty.jeffstateonline.com/bglass/Shelby%20Calendar%2007X.pdf

I honestly dont know how one takes other classes with the nursing ones. Im done so I dont have to worry about it...thank goodness

Now the wait for the letter...

Maybe I should have taken microbiology online.... Who knows.... I may consider that when the time comes. It will be a little bit more flexible though

Yeah that wait for the letter is  :banghead:

On the topic of waiting for letters....when do you think they will be sent?

I think maybe in a week or so.... I wonder if they send out the acceptance letters quicker than the others

I dont think you can take micro online at Jeff State due to having Lab.

AS far as the letter last time it took almost 3 weekes to get it. I was thinking we would get them around the 20th of June. I hope we get them sooner!

I will post when I have gotten my letter and yall do the same....ok??

Actually I took both my Bio 201 and 202 online through Arapahoe Community College in Colorado.... Jeff State approved those two courses, and that other students have taken it through the same college. They also offer Micro, but I wanted a break for the summer so I didn't take it. But it may be a consideration when it comes time for me to take the class. You do all the online discussions, and submut assignments online. They send you the material for the labs... Fetal pigs, sheep eyeball, cow brain and kidney, and all the other required materials for the coursework

That's GREAT!!! Thats the way to go then. I will have to pass that info along to my friend who started this summer but still has micro to take.

I can understand wanting a break this summer! Thats what I wanted to. I would have been acceptted in this summer with my friends but I wanted a summer with my kids since last summer was spent in Micro.

Yeah I loved it.... it takes being organized, and there was a cost for doing it, b/c i'm located out of state. But I think it was completely worth it. It took Bio 201 at Jeff State first, but I withdrew from the class, b/c I felt like it material was scattered all over the place, and un organized.

So if the Micro is approved, I will be taking it through them. I used my freee tiem at work to read up on my information and do assignments that could be done without my lab material... But it was definately worth it...

Two people have already dropped out from my Microbiology class. Wow. I tried to drop the online Math 112 class that I am also taking this summer and was informed that I would not get any money refunded. Yikes. So I have sucked it in and am playing major "catch up" to be able to submit my first quiz in two days.

Since both of the A & P classes that I took had around a 25 - 30 percent drop out rate it is amazing to me the money that is forfeited. Call me cheap, but I can't justify throwing that kind of money out the window!

Letters around the 20th? That would be sweet!!
