January 2014 Broward College

Published

Welcome.... This is a thread created for January 2014 Broward College students and others who are interested in there ADN program. We all have so many questions and concerns about the program.

We are 7-8 months away from sitting in the first class of the January 2014 nursing program. What have you been doing to prepare for this? What pre-req's do you have left to take? What inspired you to become a nurse? Is BC your first school of chose? Are there any other programs your interested in?

Don't be shy. Don't lurk. Share your thoughts.

Where do I go to get the lectures?? Can you give me a link??

Bellow are some tips that a BC student gave me:

, I graduated in August 2013 and made it straight thru with no failures. It is a very difficult program, but if you are serious you can succeed. I suggest the following:1. make studying & school your absolute priority- you will miss out on holidays, beach time and parties- but its only for 1.5 yrs and it is time well spent.2. plan to study everyday- even if you need a break - set aside an hour to review3. Never get behind= catching up is very hard- I always worked the hardest at the beginning of the rotation so that I started off with a good grade on the first test. You can not go into this thinking of just doing the minimum to pass- you have to shoot for high grades so that you have a cushion, u always want to have a little cushion in case something happens4. the first 4 months are overwhelming- then it gets easier. plan your time and assignments- don't listen to the drama of other people- people spend time complaining abt how hard it is....yes it is hard, but don't waste time complaining about it. 5. study groups- 3 people max....find someone who is committed like you - don't carry someone who cant keep up with u or you will be dragged down, I saw that many times. I had one study partner and we clicked perfectly- we rarely allowed others to study with us & we both had the highest grades thru the entire program.6. go back on this page to Feb 2012- that's when I started it. I began the prog in Jan 2012 and posted helpful stuff as I went thru each rotation- since u are starting in Jan u will be on track if you follow my posts from Feb 2012 onward. 7. For clinical- don't even think of asking for a specific day- they cant change it - and will get mad if u ask. Also- practice in the lab ALL THE TIME!!! Go in on Saturday in they open the lab on that day- practice in the lab is the only way to get thru clinical return demonstrations. THru the program use the lab to review skills and learn new ones. 8. Practive math everyday for at least a week before each math exam- there are links on this page for math practice ( use those links after u finish process)Best of luck to you!! You can do it if work at it everyday!!!

  • always read everything they assign- which is a lot. Definitely get "Med-Surg success" and "Fundamentals Success" fundamentals is for process 1 &2 - it helps teach u how to answer questions properly.I learn best by writing - so I took copious notes of the book and in class. And I listened to lectures:on the FB page I have a list of free lectures available for download via iTunes** these lectures are VERY helpful- especially any lecture by "Pat Henshaw" of Seattle Pacific University. When u are driving or walking or exercising listen to the lectures!!

Where do I go to get the lectures?? Can you give me a link??
