Jacksonville U. vs U.of Phoenix

Published

Hi everyone. I'm looking for some advice. I want to obtain my Masters online in education. I'm having trouble choosing between these 2 online programs. Jacksonville University and University of Phoenix both sound great. Prices are just about the same. The only difference I'm finding is that UOP provides books, etc online and Jacksonsville I have to buy the textbooks. Has anyone done either program and can offer some advice? Are there group projects? Thanks!

Is there any reason why you are looking at Online only option? Online Programs are convenient, but the quality of the education process at a lot of Online Institutions are questionable.
That's why it's important to make sure the school is regionally and nationally accredited. But the assumption that "online = inferior education" is false.

Also, why MSN in Education versus NP? I have family members who have done a pure MSN degree and felt they didn't learn anything of value or any marketable skill sets from doing that program.

As someone else managed, it's not a "pure" MSN, it's an MSN in education. I'm currently getting my MSN in leadership. A) because I have no interested in being an advanced practice RN, and b) because I want to go into nursing leadership, just as I assume the OP wants to go into nursing education. I strongly disgree that a non-clinical MSN doesn't teach anything of value or provide any marketable skill sets. I am in a leadership position now because of my MSN program, and I only expect to go further up the ladder as a result of the degree.

Also, why MSN in Education versus NP?
To answer for myself, I do not want to be a nurse practitioner. I do not want to see 30+ patients per day, or prescribe, or be stuck working 50 to 60 hours per week in an office or inpatient setting. The lifestyle of a nurse practitioner is not for me. I'd be happiest if I never touched another patient for the rest of my career.

The MSN in nursing education would allow me to teach online courses and/or secure a position as a hospital unit educator or employee health nurse.

Has anyone here attended Jacksonville and could maybe give feedback about it? I have the opportunity to start the RN to MSN program on May 2nd and would LOVE to hear from you if you've attended!! TIA
