Jacksonville RN new grad with job woes.

Published

hello everyone. this is my first post so please be gentle. :-p

i moved to jacksonville from birmingham, alabama in may. due to the fl bon jacking up my paper work, i wasnt able to take boards until aug. i passed and now im having a terrible time finding a job! i've applied to numerous positions at shands and still no interview. ive called the hr office but the new grad "recruiter" is only an automated/pre-recorded message. baptist requires you to complete their intern ship(which they only have 10 openings and none are available at the moment). memorial doesnt have any opeing. st vincents and st lukes require the same thing as baptist. mayo clinic also doesnt have any openings.

its reall frustrating that i can finally say that im an rn but im jobless. im just really worried about finding an acute care nursing job here. i would move back to al where i know the demand is high but i recently got married to someone in the navy and that is not an option. someone have any advice?

you will find a job!!

don't give up and keep looking!!! get a resume book from the library that shows you how to "spice up" your resume, and put it on the many job search engines you can find on the internet.

i do not know the area where you are from--- but i am sure that there has to be a job opening for new grads somewhere even if it is medsurg, or home health.

dont give up, you will find something!!!:nurse:

Yeah, Ive done the resume thing already. Ive applied to a lot of med surg. Does all home health require a year of experience? From my research, that is what is seems like.

Wolfson's I noticed had a few openings and Orange Park Medical (that is where I am doing clinical now) I know have openings. Bug their HR until you get what you want.

not all the home health care companies require a year. you have to go there in person and apply.

my buddy just started working in one and she started working as an RN last may, only has 4 months on the floor.

Wolfson's...isnt that apart of Baptist. So dont they require an intern ship program too? How do you like Orange Park Medical? Ive heard a few things about the nurse patient ratio and the happyiness of the clients.

Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital is the only one of its kind in the region. Our 143-bed, not-for-profit hospital offers round the clock coverage by a nursing team, intensive rehabilitative therapies and regular rounds by physiatrists, or their designated assistants. We also offer support for patients and their caregivers to help patients return to their maximum level of independence.

We are accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Brooks is one of Florida's only state-designated treatment facilities for brain and spinal cord injuries for children and adults. We are also one of only two inpatient rehabilitation centers in Florida that treats infants and young children.

I am pretty sure, also, that you do not have to do an internship to get a job at Baptist or anywhere else for that matter.

I know that you do for Baptist. I dont MIND doing an internship at all. The problem that Im facing is that they all start in January. That is a long time to go without working. By then, I would have been out of school for 8 months. *sigh*

Have you tried Jackson (main, south and north)? Also, I heard Univ. of Miami's hospital was in great demand for nurses since they just started. You might also consider some of the hospitals in suburb areas like Palmetto General Hospital, Hialeah Hospital, Kendall Regional, Mount Sanai, and maybe Miami Children's (if that's your area). Don't give up! You've come a long way; try to apply everywhere!!

Good Luck,

Cary

Thanks so much for the encouragement! Actually, Miami is 5 hours aways from me. I would LOVE to live there but the possiblity of relocating for my job is not in exsistance for me because Im married to a Navy man. lol I had an interview with a mental health inpatient center on Monday. Now Im just waiting for a call back.
