Ivy Tech RN Hopefuls Spring 2021

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I know it's a little on the early side, but thought it would be nice to start a thread for those of us preparing to apply for the ASN program starting Spring 2021! I'm wrapping up my last co-requisite in the Fall at the Lawrence campus and then will be applying at both the Anderson and Lawrence campus. I'm not sure which to select as first choice as of yet; I'm still doing some research on clinical sites, etc. I'm preparing for the TEAS next week! I'll be glad to get it over with... I've found the Smart Prep package from ATI really helpful ($$, but seems worth it).

Feel free to share any questions or comments, as well as to which campus(es) you are interested in applying to. Happy studying, and good luck to all!

Does anyone know when we will get more info about signing up for classes and such? I’m so excited haha! I heard stuff was virtual this semester, I wonder if that will carry over into the Spring.

Fingers crossed for you Naomi!

AKTmidwife - I think they wait to send the orientation information out until all of their seats are offered and accepted. Some campuses may have all their seats confirmed from applicants before the last round, but I think it's just a waiting game! I know... I'm anxious to hear as well!! We also don't sign up for classes... they own us LOL! Basically you'll be assigned a nursing advisor and one day "poof" your schedule appears in your MyIvy. I think they touch bases on typical schedules and clinical sites during the orientation though.

My friend that got accepted at Fort Wayne actually texted me her schedule the other week. It's below (hope it helps to frame things out!):
Monday - 8a-10:50a lecture
Tuesday - 6:30a - 12:30p clinicals
Wednesday - 8a-10:50a lab & 12:30p - 3:20p lecture
Thursday - 8a-1050 lab

My schedule will be completely different... Because FW is 16 week classes and Lawrence has 8 week classes. So I'll have Fundamentals and Nursing Lab for 8 weeks only in a condensed format and then Med-Surg lecture and clinicals the last 8 weeks.

Hi everyone, what classes would you recommend to take prior to taking the TEAS exam? I’ve already taken anatomy 1&2 would that be enough? Is there Chemistry on the test?

Hi there!

Taking anatomy and physiology 101 & 102 will definitely help you with the science portion! There were a lot of questions from 102 on there, and I heard that from several people who had a different version than I did. I had taken Chemistry over 15 years ago in high school and remembered very little of it... and there was a good bit of Chemistry on my TEAS exam. I didn't take Chemistry because I had already taken micro and really wanted to take advanced physio. Soooo I ended up going to the ATI website and getting their SmartPrep package. I was able to review the Chemistry I needed to know from there and was successful on the TEAS (I got a 90%). So I say Chemistry would be a good one to take or supplement studying with other resources! Also taking the math course as well will help with that portion of the TEAS.

Good luck to you!

Does anyone know what qualifies them to be invited to do the Summer 2021 semester?

Does anyone know what qualifies them to be invited to do the Summer 2021 semester?

I am starting my journey into the nursing program, I haven't been in school for 5 years. I am going to be 28 in February. With that being said, to those who've taken the TEAS test, what kind of Science was it? Was the test done at a testing site or online at home now with covid? What should I expect my experience based off of yours? I am located in the Indianapolis area.

Hi Ciera!

For info on the TEAS, I found ATI's site to be the most helpful and accurate since they author the TEAS test. Here's the website that may be helpful: https://atitesting.com/TEAS/register

I graduated with a Masters 10 years ago so I feel you about being rusty, but I took both A&P 101 and 102 before taking the TEAS and felt like that really helped me with the science part! You're only required to take A&P 101 before the program, but most advisors will tell you that it's a great idea to take 102 before the TEAS since you have to take it in the program; my exam was HEAVY on the A&P content from 102. I did also purchase the SmartPrep package from ATI because it helped me prepare for the Chemistry piece (which I took forever ago - and didn't want to take it in the nursing program because I wanted to take Advanced Physiology); there were also several Chemistry questions.

Once COVID is under control, I think they'll go back to on campus testing. I did it remotely at home with a proctor. They have you on webcam, have you scan the room and desk, and watch/record you take the exam. You just have to make sure that there's no one around you and you have a quiet place without interruptions. You're also allowed two pieces of scratch paper and pencils and there's a calculator embedded on the exam to use (can't use a physical one). It wasn't too bad!

Good luck to you! I start the core nursing classes at the Lawrence campus in January. It was a wild ride to get in, and I'm sure to be guaranteed a wild(er) ride in the program! ?

Thank you so much for the feedback. I am so anxious to get started! I will definitely take A&P 101 and 102 before the TEAS test. I will look on the ATI website and see what they have. If I have any further questions I will be in touch

Hi ,

How much is this program ? I’m trying to apply form Las  Vegas ? Did you ladies emailed your transcripts to admission before applying ? Thank you !

Hi Everyone,

I have 55 / 60 education points + 5 CNA points.

I took my TEAS & got a 66.7%, after using the Ivy Tech TEAS scale it turned out to be 66.3 points

So overall, I have 126.3 points in total right now.

I  am applying for the RN program in Fort Wayne, Kokomo, and Richmond. I am also applying LPN program in Fort Wayne, Anderson, & Richmond. Can anyone tell me how many seats these campuses have for these two programs as well as the average scores for entrance ?

I tried joining the facebook group but my request is still pending.
