ivy tech/ lawrence HELP :)

U.S.A. Indiana

I was wondering if anyone from the Lawrence Campus has taken Microbiology and/or Advanced Physiology in the summer. (or at this point, at all)

I am taking both this summer and I want to start studying, ummmm, NOW :specs:

I know I have lost my mind , but I don't want to take one this summer and one next and mess up my chances of getting a summer internship.

Any help, like what chapters to start on, what are the tests like, is there homework...any tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated.

(just want to throw in here that I have 3.9 gpa, so I am definitely not asking for answers, just what to study since I'm taking on so much in 10 weeks)

I have Janice now and she is great!

I had her last semester for ANP2 as well.

She sets strict guidlines an dosen't take any crap, which is good. If you want to learn, she is the one to help you. She is very though in her teachings and explains exactly what she wants to be done. But she also expects you to do the work and not be babysat.

The lab day on a Saturday is a no brainer. Just show up and you rotate through 3 different labs, sign the paper and you outta there in 3 hours. My husband drove me there and I had a good nap on the way. :D

I was going to take Chem 101 with JoJo Jamile from South Bend but was told not to because Micro and Chem together is very demanding plus I could not afford the Chem book....................it was close to 400.00 alone!

But as far as Janice goes, I would recommend her highly. She is very fair as long as she knows you are trying your best.

I totally agree with you! I had her for Micro online last semester and didn't have any problems at all. I also took Chem 101 with another instructor online and it was a pleasant experience also. The online Chem labs were really neat. The book was expensive, yes, but the teacher provided notes and found that I really could have done without the book.

Thank you all soooooo much! I am still going to take both, I was just really hoping to get a jumpstart! Unfortuneately :o , Im not young and I have 2 kids so I am sure I have lost my mind. I wish I was closer to the Terre Haute campus to take it online! I love online classes! Welp, wish me luck (i know im gonna need it!) Ill let ya know how I do. Thanks again! :p

Has anyone met Janice Webster? I don't recall if all of you have had her online or in person. I think I may have had her for ANP2 about 4 years ago. If it is her, she is wonderful, but at that time she didn't teach online classes. Does anyone know anything about her? Does she have short dark brown hair, and also coach a womans ice hockey team or something like that?...LOL That is what I remember of her if it is her. If so, I will consider taking my Advanced physiology from her. I think I saw that she taught that online as well.

Thanks for any input,

Jill:up:

I have been to 2 of her labs in Terra Haute but never actually was introduced to her. I am not sure if she was even there.

Have you taken Micro yet? You can pick one or the other.....Advanced Physio OR Micro.

But yes, she is a very good teacher and her online classes usually fill up quickly.

Brenda,

I'm in Micro right now and love it. I do attend class at the Muncie campus. I still will need another of the health science classes to equal 2 of the 4 that you can choose from. I don't want to do chemistry, and I don't remember what the other option was, so I am planning on taking the advanced physiology next semester. Is advanced Anatomy one of the options? LOL..I don't remember, just know I will need another one.

Jill

Jill,

Advanced Anatomy and Physiology is one class.

I opted for the Chem because its easier..........LOL!

Although, if going for my BSN after, I will need the advanced ANP. So I am undecided yet as to which one I will take.

I dont think they have an advanced ANP class on line.............and the teacher at B-town is really terrible. ( another reason I opted for Chem).

Hey......................you are going to get your letter tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :) :)

Brenda

I am taking ANP201 and Micro together now. Let me say they are both very in depth classes and cover a lot of material. Micro is a lot easier than Physio. There's no way on Earth I would take the two of them together over a Summer semester because they are usually condensed down into 10 week semesters. 16 weeks is very demanding for the Physio class.

For Micro, if you are taking it at Lawrence, try to get yourself into Tracey Mills' class. She's the best instructor I've ever had. *hint....Make sure you don't get stuck with a different instructor for lab.

Specializes in Dialysis.

Well, I did it! I stopped in today and signed up for one of Webster's Summer Micro classes. So I'll be driving down there one Saturday from the SB area. If anyone else wants to carpool, lmk.

I also signed up for one of Hackeman's ENG 211 classes, so if anyone else is in one of those then maybe we'll be in class together.

Oh, and I also turned in my app today! So I start my two month wait:eek:

ok, i am bowing out of microbiology. arghhhh, but I GOT A JOB TODAY!!! went into a nursing home to fill out an app, and they just hired me, right there on the spot...wooo hooo (just finished my CNA class last week) and just to top it off, it's about 45 seconds from my house.

I just had to share, Im sooooo excited! :hpygrp:

Thats the killer, Kate.

The longggggg wait for that letter!

You will enjoy Janice Websters class. If you need help, just email her and she responds quickly.

Be aware the summer classes are more crammed and more intense than the regular length semester classes.

Good luck!

That is great news, congrats! Can I ask you a personal question? What is the salary range for a CNA position in a nursing home? I am currently in my first semester ASN at Ivy Tech Indy and am thinking of applying to several places this summer as a CNA. Just curious what range to expect. Thanks!

Sorry this is late, but boo the pay is around 10/hr, where I did clinicals it was 10.45 to start, so I wouldnt take any less than that. (also, 2 days a week starting out is enough if you don't have to work more than that)

also...littlemamakt...I sent you a pm about chem online in SB.
