I've been out of Nursing for a while

Published

I graduated from a PN program in 98. Took the NCLEX and did not pass. Life changed and I switched careers. But always wanted to get back to nursing. It's 2017 and now I have the opportunity to do it full-time. I registered for a PN Remidiation/Clinical program beginning soon. I'll take the NCLEX-PN after. I'm also prepping for an RN program (hopefully the transitional/bridge) by taking a couple of pre-requisites.

Good idea? Any advice?

My original plan was to get my CNA again and work in the field while in RN school. But I hear I can attempt the NCLEX-PN again even though it's been a few years.

Please share experiences or advice. Thank you in advance.

Nursing has drastically changed over those two decades. Do the remedial work, pass the exam and the decide if you want to bridge.

It's not the profession that you entered

True, thank you!!

Specializes in NICU, ICU, PICU, Academia.

Before you spend all that time and money- consider whether or not you can get hired. a nineteen year gap is going to be an insurmountable hurdle I think.

You really need to go back to school.

I would think you need more than a refresher course. So much has changed in medicine. Maybe do a traditional RN program. I also can't see employers hiring after 19 years. That's a huge difference.
