Not enough staff and NO agency nurses. Came in to do an extra shift on my day off and ended doing a double!!

I am more than happy to share the workload if people want to come and work here in Queensland:roll:

Come On Mr Beatty - you promised us more nurses;)

No, truly, Queensland is a really nice place to work:D (she says hopefully knowing there is a world wide shorage of nurses:p)

::grin::

My husband (well, he will be in a 2 weeks, anyway) and I love to travel and are both nurses!

What are the requirements for US nurses wishing to work in OZ?

We're both thinking seriously of doing the travel bit for a few years. What a fabulous way to experience another country!

Here I go - doing some international recruiting:p

At the moment it is relatively (but only relatively) easy to get temporary work visa's for Australia.

It is a fun thing to do - you won't make as much as working in the states but you get to see our brilliant crazy unique country while you make money:D

I lived in Hawaii for several years and met a lot of great people that were from Australia. Although most of them were from Sydney, crewed on sailboats and drank too much. ::grin::

If we want to travel, we might as well go to Australia while we are still used to being young and broke. We're both all about a more laid-back style of life than most mainlanders here in the US are used to.

my friend is currently working in Japan as a registered nurse, do u have any idea of MIGRANT BRIDGING PROGRAM? and do he needs to study for 6 months to 1 year. Do u know any schools or unviersities conducting that kind program?

tnx!

I gotta recruit somehow - my feet hurt!:p

I just don't believe they talked me into a double after I said I would noly do six hours - trouble is - there just is not enough agency nurses. The other trouble is that if there is enough agency nurses then a lot of them start not getting enough work and they leave agency work. So we are in a losing situation here.:uhoh21:

I keep telling myself "just think of the money":p

Tell me, when you work o/t or a double, are you getting paid time and half or more?

Specializes in ICU.

Time and a half for the first four hours and double time thereafter. The union is NOT happy with double shifts and is very down on doing more than 12 hours straight - but there are days when there just is no option

How long are the shifts normally? 8 or 12 hours?

Do they vary by hospital?

Specializes in ICU.

Can be 8, 10 or 12 hours. Depends on the hospital/ward and your contract

Isn't this the time of the year when our units have our 15 new grads starting , to fill the holes in the roster?
