Italian culture?

Published

Hi guys,

I need some help finding some information. My group and I have to do a cultural presentation for out Intro to Nursing class and we decided to pick the Italian culture. We have to try and focus on finding information relating to the hospital setting. Like how Italians act in the hospital? Do they have certain cultural values that would be important for a nurse to know? Like do they like being touched, do they like lots of eye contact, lots of talking or less talking, etc...? How to properly greet them? Any religious information of importance? Types of food they don't eat? Etc...? And any useful webistes or books that may help.

Thanks in advance!

Old post but I thought I would answer it anyway.

I am Italian ,born and bred in Italy, living in England,if you do need informations about Italians do not let people (that do not know anything about Italians)tell you what Italians do and think, ask an Italian!!!

I think an Italian born and bred in Italy is not the same as an Italian born and bred in USA...totally different......!

Good luck on your study.

Very good point and even though the post is old, it is pertinent what you said because it's a bound to come up again somewhere.

It has also been my experience that Italians from the US are very different then ones born in Italy. I have also met Italians who were raised in North Africa, Greece, etc.

I also have seen a wide gap between Italians from NY and NJ have very little if anything in common with Italians born and raised in southern or midwestern United States. Culture is impacted by a lot of variables.
