Is it worth returning to nursing?

Published

Having been out of nursing since 2006; Is it worth returning.

What's the nursing job market like in your area? In many areas the job market is saturated with new grads who cannot find work. If you haven't worked in nursing for ten years you may face difficulty finding employment. Consider taking a refresher course with a clinical component to refresh your skills and to get a feel for the job market.

gave great direction

It really depends on what "worth it" is to you. Much has changed in the last ten years: rabid corporate monopolization of health care, and massive changes in workflow and technology. It's not all bad, but it's definitely not all good.

One of my top five primary reasons for choosing nursing as a profession so many years ago, was that it was not a traditional corporate gig. Surprise!

Again, it's not all bad, and I appreciate the company I currently work for, even though I might not agree with the system that allowed monopolization in the first place.

I agree with the above poster who mentioned taking a refresher course with clinical.
