Is working as a CNA/Nurse Tech risky to my future nursing license?

Published

I'm a f/t new nursing student. If I work as a CNA or nurse tech, would I be risking my future career prospects as a nurse? I heard that CNA's & nurse techs need , so I would hate to make a stupid mistake & then risk my future as a nurse if it stays on my record. Also, how would I go about getting the liability insurance if I do apply for CNA/nurse tech jobs? I need money, but I'm not sure what type of job to look for. Please advise.

I really haven't heard that CNA's need . I'm due to start at a Long Island hosp. as a CNA and I'm also applying to the nursing program at my school this March. However, I cannot ever recall being told to carry liability insurance during my CNA training. It's worth looking into now that you mentioned it. I do remember my CNA instructor saying it was necessary once you have your license as a nurse to have insurance, though. Good luck.

dibbs197,

Where did you go to school for your CNA??

hi ive had my cna certificate 2 years ago and never took the state license , you said the hospital you work at doenst require the state certification, if you dont mind can you please tell me which hospital is that? or give me a few names of hospitals in ny that does not require the state license. i plan on taking my state board in a month but would like to start looking for a job now, thanks.

I worked as a CNA for three years and never heard about needing . I would ask your future department head or charge nurse what the policy is at that particular institution.

Working as a CNA/Nurse Tech would actually benefit your nursing career. You get the exposure to the nursing field while working as a CNA or Nurse Tech. I worked as CNA while I was in nursing school and found it to be advantageous. I got to see certain procedures and was exposed to many things I learned in nursing school. As a CNA I did have but it was not expensive at all is was approximately $20-26. The liability insurance is renewed every year so even when you finish nursing school, you can apply for liability insurance as a nurse. I wish you luck and I hope this post was helpful.
