Is this a viable solution?

Hey all, just wanted to gain your thoughts and opinions on something. I have a lot of anxiety/depression that I feel is strongly rooted in my work. I'm currently on meds and working with my doctor; but would it be weird to cut down my hours (if I can afford it financially) for mental health reasons? My reasoning for asking this is I've done PRN work before, and did pretty well with it; but if I go and ask my management to potentially switch me once a PRN position is available, I'm not sure what reason to give them. Thoughts?

Better work life balance? No need to explain in detail. You enjoy your job, but you have other priorities that demand your attention at this time and would like to drop down to PRN.

Never share mental health issues with your employer if you can possibly avoid it. It's 2019 and stigma should have long since disappeared, but it hasn't, and you don't want to paint a big target on your back. It's illegal to discriminate on the basis of mental illness (among other things), but believe me, companies do it every day. If you want to go to PRN, do what beekee said and tell your boss you're wanting a better work-life balance. Nothing more needs to be said.

Good luck.
