Is the unofficial score ever wrong?

This was my second time to take the NCLEX. The first test I had 247 questions, this time I only had 75 questions and was done in 59 minutes. I put a lot of study time into this and used Kaplan and Mosby test preps. When I looked at the unofficial result this morning it said "fail". Been in crazy tears all day because of it. Could it be a mistake? If not, does anyone have pointers to help me?

"NCSBN may cancel or withhold a candidate's results if, in NCSBN's judgment, there is a good faith basis to question the validity of the results for any reason, notwithstanding, the absence of any evidence of a candidate's personal involvement in irregular activities. Evidence of invalid results may include, but are not limited to, unusual answer patterns or unusual score increases from one exam to another. If a candidate's result is cancelled, revoked or invalidated without a finding that the candidate engaged in irregular behavior, the candidate may appeal the decision and/or will be offered a free retest. An appeal is a candidate's exclusive means of redress with regard to NCSBN's decision to take this action."

Hoping this is the case with my exam....

its possible that you made consecutive mistakes on the easy questions towards the end of your exam which made your graph go below the midline req after the 75th question.

The quick results accurately reflect your NCLEX score. So if it said fail, it means that, based on the computer scoring, you were below the minimum passing line. These are accurate, I'm sorry.

The reason that they are unofficial is because the state BON makes the final decision about your licensure. While Peason VUE screens the testers for cheating, the BON also reviews results. If they notice that anything is off (or if you have not completed all the paperwork or failed the background check), the BON can refuse to issue you a license even if you have a passing score. Appealing this decision applies to people who have passed the exam but do not receive a license. If you failed the exam, you will not receive a license.

I'm sorry that you have to go through this again. Let yourself be upset for a few days and then get back on the horse. Try some new study material or even a review course. Good luck.

Sorry to hear the bad news. Give yourself a couple of days to take it in, then start your plan to retest.
