Is 30 Unit RN a good way to go????

U.S.A. California

Published

Hello,

I am a new graduate of an LVN program in Orange County.... I am interested in starting Cerritos college in January taking their 30 unit option for the RN.... does anyone know more info about this option??

All I need to take is the 30 units and I will be able to take the RN board??? I don't need math, english, history, etc.????

I would love to hear from RN's that may have done the 30 unit thing....

Thanks So Much!!!

You are better off in the long run to complete the EXTRA ge courses and get your ADN. I was told that the 30 unit RN option is not recognized outside of California. When I first looked into nursing, that was going to be my ideal way. I then realized that my husband and I are seriously considering moving outside of CA.

Good Luck!

Thanks to all of you for your advice. I went to the local JC and spoke with a counselor. Turns out, to do the 30 unit option, you STILL have to take like 2-3 classes before getting into those anyway. So I have decided, if I am going to go through ALL that... I might as well get my ASN. Thanks for helping me work it out!

im lvn too! just wanna ask you, if there's no english on the 30 unit option in ceritos. Because when i apply in compton english1a is part of the pre- reqs. so if eng1a is added it will exceed 30 units. hope you'll reply on this because I really want to study in cerritos. Plus, is there waiting list in cerritos? thanks man!!!

People who consider the 30 unit option usually do so as a last resort to not getting into a regular RN program or having to drop out of one for some reason. As far as addressing the nrsg shortage, it is like a drop of water in the ocean.
