Hi! I'm on a complicated situation and I just wanted to hear some of your insights regarding this thread. I've been working as a nurse for 6 years. 2 years as a general ward, OR and NICU/Nursery Nurse in the Philippines and 4 years as a NICU nurse in Saudi Arabia. My whole family migrated in the U.S. and they petitioned me that will take 10 years in the process. I was thinking of trying nursing career in the U.S. to be with my family and I know it will take lots of steps (eligibility, exams, etc.) towards it. I've been thinking of all these procedures and maybe ending up still unemployed in the U.S. Any other suggestions you have because I've been hearing of lay-offs of nurses or what from the other hospitals in the U.S. due to economy reasons. Is it true?

There is no nursing shortage in much of the US. Very few facilities are willing to go through the paperwork and expense to hire an IEN when there is a surplus of US citizen/PR new & experienced nurses seeking employment. The most common visa for nurses, EB3 has a 5-15 year wait due to retrogression. (I think candidates born in the Philippines have a 10 year wait for their petition to become current ).

My famiy migrated in U.S. and my petition paper is on the process that will take 10 years. I've been working as a Nurse for 6 years. 2 years in the Philippines as an OR,Ward,Nursery/NICU nurse and 4 years in Saudi Arabia as NICU Nurse. I'm thinking of applying in the U.S. as a nurse to be with my family. Thinking of the step by step process and the high competition discourages me to start my US nursing career. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks for your time!

My family migrated in New York and my petition is on the process that will take 10 years. I've been working as a nurse for 6 years. 2 years in the Philippines and 4 years in Saudi Arabia. I've been thinking of starting a nursing career in the U.S. to be with my family. What should I do first?

I applied NCLEX in California last 2006 and took exam 2007 but I failed. I'm thinking of trying NCLEX in New York State. Do I have to start from the beginning of the application?

Do I still have to take CGFNS, TOEFL first before the NCLEX? Thanks!

Currently taking approx 6 years for someone born in the Philippines to get immigrant visa and that is once you have meet state requirements, passed NCLEX and found employer willing to wait the x amount of years. There is nothing stopping you from having 2 applications in progress but still going to take time before in the US working

You have to complete the requirements for a nursing license by examination as an internationally educated nurse. This includes CVS assessment by CGFNS that takes at least 6 months to complete then apply to NY BoN and complete the other requirements.
