Specialties Ob/Gyn

Hello,

I am going to be starting nursing this fall. I just want to know all of my options. What all does an OB-Gyn nurse do? How do I know if it is right for me? Any replies are greatly appreciated! Thanks in addvance!:)

I too will be starting clinicals this fall. I think that is part of what clinicals are about - learning what aspect of nursing is the best fit for you.

See the OB/GYN nursing thread. Go back into archives. There is TONS of info there about what we do and why we love it. Good luck!

Sara is right. Even then, it may take years for you to find your niche in nursing. And that niche may change as you change and as your needs change. For several years I wanted to do nothing but ER. "Good" traumas kept me wired up for days. I thought the ultimate would be to work as a trauma flight nurse. Now I want nothing to do with any of that and am happy in my little outpatient hemodialysis unit (If only I could make a living here without working a second job!) I have a teenager and a preteen who will probably be coming to live with me in the next couple of years so I will have to try to move on to something that involves M-F 8-4 or 9-5 (yeah, RIGHT) so I can be more of the Mom to them that I haven't been able to be because of my schedule. (which is why they haven't lived with me for 9 years.) Take your time and don't buy into the BS ads that get thrown your way. And know that among those of us who know, Sign-on bonuses are referred to as "Sucker" bonuses. So avoid them at all costs.

Good luck!
