I found out that this is a SUNY school. I would like to know if anyone has completed their RN program. How hard is it to get accepted? Is commuting difficult from the city?? Thanks.

It's a SUNY school.

Commuting from what city? NY? It would be a 2.5 hour drive each way. Loch Sheldrake is far from the thruway.

Yes, I know.....I've mapquest it and it is far....100mi from where I live. But, by any means necessary I will become a RN. There seems to be soooo much red tape to cut threw as far as these CUNY schools go. Why o why is it so hard to bridge over??

I am a graduate of the SCCC nursing program. I graduated in 2007. I know that they have just recently started a bridge program for LPN to RN's. (if you are an LPN) Ummmm....I know that there was a waiting list the last time I checked end of the semester of this year. I keep in touch with the instructors.

If you haven't started the nursing program as of yet...you might want to look into Orange County Community College. It is in Middletown New York and is about 75 miles from the city (give or take and a little better of a commute than going to SCCC) OCCC is also a Suny school too..Hope this helps and good luck to you!

Also...I forgot to add...depending on your age..you might want to look into SCCC's dorms. I know alot of city students dorm at this college. This way it would help with your commute as well.

It's how I became an RN from LPN. Head over to Distance Learning and look around. And feel free to contact me.

Thanks for the information. I will definately check it out. When I went to SCCC, they didn't tell me anything about a waiting list. Yes, I am an LPN but I have A and P 1 and 2 to do as far as pre-reqs are concerned. I was trying to do A and P 1 this Fall but I don't think I'm going to make the deadline at any school at this point.

Sue,

I tried to do excelsior. I signed up a year ago, was involved in a car accident and didn't do not 1 test. Now I owe $305 and have to start all over again. Well, not really all over since I never took a test. But financially, I have to start all over again. I'm not sure if this is truly for me, and I don't want to waste anymore money. Besides, I'm scared to death of the CPNE.

Ah, the CPNE kicked my butt the first time and I passed the second. We can get you through.

Honestly, if you are a good test-taker EC is the way to go. You can test out of A&P, etc. And with a couple of kids how on earth are you going to commute 5 hours a day and live?

that could be why they didn't mention it (waiting list) it's easier to get in with the bridge program then to start from the beginning. Also...you might want to check out the online classes SCCC has to offer...you could get a few pre reqs in online.

Thanks again for the info. I was shooting for taking A and P 1 this Fall but may have to wait until Jan. I didn't have the money upfront and classes already started. Mr. Campbell told me I can take the classes locally if it works out better, and then transfer the classes in. I'm so frazzled right now. I need to do something. I'm still waiting for someone from the Nsg dept to call me with the information. Do you have any info? I would appreciate it.
