Is there a secret to Emory

Published

I have 6.5 years of nursing experience (5 med/surg and 1.5 ICU Trauma/General) and for the life of me, cannot get in touch with anyone who follows through at Emory. I am board certified in med/surg as well as BSN. What is the trick to getting through to someone at Emory? I currently am with Wellstar and have been for my career and I have always wanted to work for Emory and move downtown. I spoke with one HR rep two weeks ago (didn't ask me my credentials only my experience and what I was interested in) and said she would fwd my information to a manager and to follow up with her in 3 days if I did not hear from her. Well that has been two weeks almost and I have not heard back from her even after I sent her a reminder email. Suggestions? Secrets? Thanks in advance.

If I were you I'd try to find out exactly who the director is for the unit you want to work on and I would hand deliver my resume to that person's office along with a cover letter stating you have applied on line etc but also want to reach out directly. If you have tried this long and can't get past the online computer/HR person then amp it up a bit. Your complaint though about not getting through/hearing back is not unique...on here and other sites nurses are hitting walls like you are - they have the experience etc but either can't get past the computer part or the recruiter - others try to go back to jobs they left correctly only to be told they are not eligible for rehire but w/o explanation..sometimes I think employers rely too much on computers and computers sorting the applicants out.

Yes, research which unit(s) you want to work on and hand deliver your resumes. Also, if you know someone who works at Emory, ask them to refer you. Most of the people hired on my floor have been through referrals or internally.

So true. Have a friend, someone who works or has worked there, email a recommendation for employment to the manager. The manager emails HR for your profile. If she has an opening, you will be considered. That is how it works.

Yes, email unit director directly, and skip the part of HR. As you said you have one year of ICU experience, it is easy to get in one of ICUs. Like Emory midtown, it has CCU, Medical ICU, Medical/surgical ICU, Neurology ICU, and 11 ICU. I just know a person from Wellstone Kenestone(spell wrong?) got a job at my ICU here at midtown.

Thanks everyone for your advice. Had an interview last Friday and had an offer on the spot! Woo hoo...I am so excited!
