Is "C" good enough??

I think it depends on the school. At the community colleges they are all for "equal opportunity", so as long as you have passed, you are on the list with everyone else.

I attend a community college and we were order ranked by our grades. Each grade received a value along with an entrance exam. The ones with the top scores got in - period.

Now that we have started our numbers have dropped from 40 to 33 and about 1/2 the class is failing pharmacology. It's hard stuff.

As o/p stated, it depends on your school - but my suggestion would be to 1st find out and then 2nd, if you can and must, try retaking the class with the C to improve your score.

Hey there everyone! This may seem like a silly question but here goes. I've applied for several adn programs for the spring semester and was just wondering if they even consider applicants that have a "C" in a pre-req. In a&p 1 I recieved an a in the lecture and b in the lab. Then a&p2 recieved a b in lecture and c in lab. Are C's even considered with so many other applicants? I'm so nervous!

In my school, yes, they will. I have a C in one of my classes (DH and I were going through a rough time, so I blame it on him :rolleyes: ). According to the Nursing department, you need at least a 2.0 GPA to be considered for the program. Our getting into the program is mainly based on our NLN pre-entrance exam scores. As long as we have a GPA of 2.0 or higher, we're golden if we're in the top percent of the test takers.

I would check with a counselor at the school...or the nursing department directly. I got the phone number to call off the internet for that specific department and they answered all of my questions. But yes, in our school, basically a C or better is ok.

You have to check with the nursing school you are planning to apply to - and realize they won't make any exceptions to their rules. I know that sounds kind of funny, but I ran into fellow students while I was doing my pre-reqs who thought that the nursing program(s) would make an exception for them because they were close in their scores, etc. Trust me, they won't. Too many people *will* meet the standards, and they will always get priority.

Also, you might want to check to see if they will let you re-do any of your sciences to raise your GPA. That is allowed in at least one program here (a re-do of one science).

Check with the program. At our CC, there's a two year wait list for the ADN program! Students are allowed to take a prerequisite class over three times! GPA isn't a factor (as long as you have a 2.5 before petitioning.) senority takes priority over stellar grades. I don't know why this hasn't been changed.

I agree with the other poster, check with the schools you are aplying for. I am at a comunity college , which is very competitive and even people with 4.0 were turned away. Deciding points were given to the amounts of supporting classes taken.
