PRN Travel is called Per Diem nursing.
The way it works is you sign on with a travel company that services the area you want to work and then you give them your available dates and if they have needs on those dates they will call you.
I don't know where you are located but you could contact a travel company and see if they have per diem contracts in your area.
I have used Medical staffing network for per diem they have many local offices. Go to there web site at MSNhealth.com for more info.
Hope it works out for you
I posted this in the travel nursing area but have not gotten any responses hoping someone on this forum will have some info.Would travel nursing work as a part time/PRN position?
Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.
It would be better to try a local per diem agency to pick up shifts around your regular scheduled days at your full time job, rather than a travel position.
When taking a travel position, one is on that facillities schedule, and most times the contractis for a specific lenght of time for a certain hours per week (mostly fulltime hours), and you might have a conflict with both places and scheduled shifts.
With a reasonbale drive time, local agency per diem IMO would be a far better choice for you to consider.

It sounds like what you are looking for is local agency nursing rather than travel nursing. Typically travel nurses work 40+ hours a week for a specific amount of time. Hospitals that need travel nurses are in somewhat desperate staffing situations and are willing to pay big bucks for a nurse who will work plenty of hours. Agency nursing may not pay as well as travel nursing but it does typically pay a little more than staff nursing per hour. You can either take a local contract (which, again, would usually be 40+ hours/week) or you can work per diem. I work per diem through a local agency and I love it. It has given me a lot of experience in many different areas.

Would travel nursing work as a part time/PRN position?
I have my reg f/t job that I love but I also want to earn some extra money. I also do not want to travel out of state. I see that their are several RN travel positions w/in a reasonable driving distance for me and it would be worth it for me if I could just do it as I need to. It would be more like 1 day a week for me.
Also the facility I work at now is affiliated w/ the larger hospital in the neighboring area that is looking for travel nurses. I was wondering if that would be allowed because working at the NH affiliated w/ our hosp we can't get more than our 40hrs/wk or it's considered OT. Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.
