I'm not too concerned about how much I make, but I would really love to travel around the world (not just work in Canada and the U.S.). Would you have to get a degree in nursing to work in, say, China? or Japan? Any advice, please?

Yup, the BScN is better for international, paid employment.
However, I don't think Japan has ever licensed an non-Japanese educated nurse.
How good is your written and spoken Chinese and Japanese?

A minimum BScN is required with Red Cross, Doctors w/o Borders, etc.
RPNs can do outpost nursing in Northern Canada - NWT, Nunavut, etc.
Actually, PNs with the ORTech designation can and do volunteer on medical missions. Several from my hospital have gone to Ecuador and other South and Central American countries.
Fiona, do you know what agency they used?
It's a volunteer team made up of OR, Surgical, and Ortho nurses, PTs and Drs. from my hospital.
I know that they fundraise during the year to help offset their costs, pay their own way, take donated supplies and it's usually in Jan-Feb.
I'll have to ask around at work. For some reason I think one of the surgeons organizes it.

you can look into American Mobile and Cross Country...they are the 2 largest travel companies in the USA. I am not sure about international agencies...
