Is it possible to get a day shift after graduation

I am wondering if it is really almost inpossible to find a day job right after graduation? People say it is hard without experience. I dont really want to work nights. I was hoping to get off around 3:00 in the afternoon so I could be with my kids? Can this be done? I also really want to work NICU if that makes a difference in the hours. I would love to hear from anyone who might know. Cyndi

Yes, it is possible to get a day position. But it also depends on what openings are available. You should let who you apply with know that you are looking for an 8 hour day shift position. You might have to apply to several places or start off working evening or night shift before being offered the day position you want. At my facility, even if you are hired for evening or night shift, you will start your orientation on the day shift and then move on to your hired shift.

At the LTC I use to work at they were always hiring new grads to work day shift. Good luck :)

Inquire as to the possiblity of if you do work a rotating shift if there is someone who prefers nights. Then if they are on the same rotation as you (days of the week) that you trade all your nights for all their days on a continuing trade. It has worked for me for 3 years now, went straight into a day switch right out of RN school and i LOVE it. As long as the person you trade with is willing and still working there it can happen. The person that trades quites or changes days of the week rotation and you may have to go back to nights until you can find another comperable trade.
