Is it okay to go to an unaccredited LPN program if it is approved by the state BON?

Published

There are only 3 accredited LPN programs in my state (Georgia) and they are all many hours from me. I'm scared to go to a not accredited school in case it doesn't end up transferring to bridge programs / other states, but I also don't know what other choice I have. I could try to do an ADN, but I don't know if I have enough time to dedicate to that before I have to start working/moving.

If one of the approved-only schools near me were an option it would be perfect, but I just don't know if it will bite me in the *** later ?

Three? What? Did you look at the GBON site?

Those are approved by the GBON but I have seen that they should also be accredited by ACEN

All of the tech college programs don't have accreditation? Wow! Surprising. Sorry to hear that.

Yep, I looked it up the other way, via ACEN.

Yep! Really surprising. So many LPN programs around here but almost none are accredited. I don't get it?

From personal experience, don’t go to non-accredited schools. I have 2 years that, though I learned a lot, got me nothing towards a degree!

That's what I was afraid of possibly happening. Sorry that happened to you. It's crazy that there are so many non-accredited schools that put people in this position! For LPNs people in my area pretty much either have to go to a non-accredited school or move. So off to ADN programs I go ?
