Hello,
I am completing an unaccredited ADN which is approved in Florida to allow taking the NCLEX.
Do RN to BSN programs (or higher) exist that permit entry with an unencumbered RN + BA in a different field?
Kindly,
Steven King, LPN, MBA, MEd, MDiv

You seem extremely educated by your previous degrees and I don't doubt you will pass NCLEX with your preparation.
An article in the Journal of Nursing Regulation (February 2020) by Roseman University nursing researchers found that there was a statistically significant increase in NCLEX first-time pass rates in practical nurse, ADN and BSN programs that were accredited. While graduating from a non-accredited program may not have a long term impact on moving ahead in education, the an NCLEX failure would delay the future enrollment.
(I just read this research article yesterday, so it came to mind when reading your query). Best wishes as you move forward in your nursing education!
Thank you. I assure you that I will zealously prepare for the NCLEX. ?
For what it’s worth, the school was started by a doctorally trained RN who was a long time faculty member at a competitive school. I have no doubt that accreditation looms on the horizon.
Florida is a funny animal in terms of regulating their nursing programs. From what I have read (I am not a Florida resident) the programs are approved initially by the FBON and the DOE. Continuous approval is done by the DOE. The programs are not put on a probation status until they achieve 10% less than NCLEX pass rate for 3 consecutive years. That is why so many programs limp along with 10% passing for at least 3 or MORE years (may be on life support). I read that the Florida legislature has legislated that all LPN and RN programs must achieve programmatic accreditation in 5 years. (I will believe it when I see it.!). It just seems like the authorities don't want to be 'the bad guys' to pronounce a program DOA. Let ACEN or CCNE do it.
I have taught for 40 + years and you cannot fake quality with an ACEN or CCNE visit. Everything is looked at: finances, faculty qualifications, student graduation and NCLEX rates, % graduates employment rates and graduate evaluations of the programs, plans and actual activities to evaluate EVERY aspect of the program EVERY year...I was involved in at least 8 accreditation visits for ACEN, CCNE and regional accreditation (at 2 single purpose nursing BSN institutions)...oh, it makes my poor head throb. All these agency visits are expensive so I can see the motivation for a for-profit declining them.
What I find so odd is that programs that have some of the poorest passing rates are approved for remediation for NCLEX.( I guess this is the DOE's work) I have read that after 3 NCLEX failures, candidates must remediate....and at the schools that didn't do their job the first time ?.
If you are agreeable I would like to know what school you attend, I understand if you don't want to do that. You can message me without all AN seeing it.
Wishing you all the best, what an asset you will be as an RN!
Thank you, quite an informative post.
I am attending Educare Envision School of Nursing’s PN to ADN bridge…
Preliminary discussion suggests that I shan’t have issues enrolling in UTA’s RN to BSN program subsequently.
I found this disclaimer on the Florida site about the Department of Education's control over nursing programs:
Quote The Florida Board of Nursing (Board) approves new pre-licensure nursing education programs that meet the application requirements specified in Section 464.019, Florida Statutes. This Section of Florida law also defines the Board’s regulatory authority over established nursing education programs. Consumers are advised that the Board is not authorized to conduct site visits, and oversight of approved nursing education program quality measures is limited by Florida law. All concerns or complaints pertaining to approved nursing education programs in Florida should be directed to the Commission for Independent Education at: www.fldoe.org/cie and select “File a Complaint”.

You are our next generation of nursing professionals. Are you intending to stay in Florida?
Yes, I’m married to a physician who loves it here & tolerates my absorption of graduate education.
Since I am eyeballing upward mobility eventually, I “might” stick it out at UTA s/p RN to complete their RN-MSN program with an accredited BSN awarded in route.

Congratulations!
It is odd but I cannot find Educare Envision on the Florida NCLEX result reports. Would there be another name?

I suspect the program is too new for such review. I believe I was in the second graduating class.
