So....
I'm a 26 year old with a BA, and for the past 4 years I've been busting my butt doing non-profit work. I come from a place of strong empathy, and really only consider work that in some way is helping other people. I'm pretty type A and perform well in high stress, adrenaline using environments. I know a lot of RNs and am very familiar with the job, and I'm thinking if I should try and get into it.
Cons:
Science is not a big interest for me - I don't know if it's something I'm bad at, as much as something I never really applied myself to. Like to go to school for a BSN or whatever I would have to take a bunch of science pre-reqs.
I've never worked in a medical setting before - like I mean, directly with patients. So who knows if I would react well in that environemtn
I don't know how well I could handle a really petty environment, and I get the impression lots of hospitals are like that.
Anyways, thoughts?

That's all the motivation you need to get into nursing ... well that and smarts to actually pass classes.
Your cons are pretty irrelevant on the grand scheme of things. Well the petty environment is always on a case by case basis, I don't think anyone would deny it happens here and there. You are a girl you might get caught up into it ... okay LOL that was my stereotype quota for the day.
Afraid of science? Just pass Chem, you'll be done with "science" for the rest of your life. When I think science I think nasty nasty equations we had to solve and lab experiments, that's all done after you pass Chem. Microbiology is self explanatory and A&P is just a whole slew of memorization and logical thinking on how the body works. Yeah yeah, Nursing is a "science" but a whole different type, no need to get technical, I'm just assuming the stereotypical science.
And yes, talking to patients is the LEAST of your worries while on the floor. That fear is gone within seconds.

I never did that great in science in school. Well, let me rephrase - I was considered smart, and therefore placed into the Advanced classes. I did okay, but it did not hold my interest. I got mainly Bs, but only a C in Chemistry. But fast forward to now. Now, I have an interest in becoming a nurse. I was petrified of taking the sciences. But, I knew that I had to have the sciences in order to become a nurse and that they would be the basis of my nursing classes. So, I plunged in. It's amazing the interest level that I suddenly had, that I never had before in high school. I ended up getting an A. Now I'm actually excited for my next science class!
