An offer of $18 or $19/hour for a new grad rpn working in a retirement residence in Ontario?

Seems a bit on the low side, but retirement homes typically pay less than hospitals or clinics. It might not seem like much, but considering how tough the job market is it might be the best you can get in the short term as a new grad.

Is it a union job? All union jobs should start at the same wage

It's not union.

Hiring mangers can only take advantage of you if you let them. I think new grads need to stand up for themselves. I know it's not all about the money, but $19 is just unacceptable so I'm glad I declined the offer. Thank you for your response.

I wouldn't be taking that. I made $28 as an RPN. That is an insult IMO.

I agree it's insulting but I think that's the going rate in an RH. Unreal.

Try to get into the hospital. As a part time RPN in the hospital I made $29.60 plus 14% in lieu of benefits. I think it came to just over $33.
