Hi all nurses outthere,
After I graduated in 1999, I only worked for 3 months. Then, I pursued my other interest. I recently became a mom one years ago. That got me thinking to go back to nursing in order to take care my daughter and have my own career at the same time.
I just passed NCLEX this March. It has been over 10 years since my graduation, therefore, I am taking RN refresher class at local college to get myself ready to get back to nursing. I has been applying for New grad program in my area. Today I got one email back from one of the hospitals that I applied. It said "...if you are not recent graduate, you may not qualify for my new grad program" in the email.
I knew that it won't be easy for me to go back nursing field after so many years with 0 experience. However, I don't know that new grad programs are only for new graduated students. I just felt discourage by it. Have anyone heard the re-entry nurse (like me with 0 experience) get hired in the new grad program? Maybe I should go back to school for my master degree...any other suggestions? Thank you all!

I have been away from nursing for 10+ years and recently applied to a new grad program. I took a refresher course last year. When I sent my cover letter with my resume, I made it clear that I understood that it was a new grad program, and without emphasizing the negative, explained why it would be a good fit for me. I am really hoping I get selected for this, as I think it would be the best way for me to ease back into the hospital.
Ya, I thiink that new grad program is the best way for me to get back to nursing as well. I wish you the best luck and update me if you got that job.

If the hospital has a nurse recruiter call and ask what route they think would be the best fit for you.
